I knew how prolific Kirby was in the '60s and I knew had badly Stan Lee and Marvel screwed him over, but I had no idea how many comics he wrote before and after WWII before even creating the Fantastic Four.

Captain America's iconic shield, which was originally triangular, became round because of a dispute over its likeness to another character called the Shield.

Jack Kirby is probably the single most influential comic book creator. Tom Scioli's biography of Kirby is written as a graphic novel in the style of the old comic strips that Kirby read growing up.

I enjoyed it for what it is. Watching the heroes defeat a sea-monster by creating an oil spill (and a few other moments like this) really gives one pause from the perspective of reading it in our stage of a climate crises. These are late 50s comics about men enforcing the status quo and if you are like me you may have a hard time turning off your brain and accepting it all on the level of goofy fun. Jack Kirby is really inspiring as an artist.

#OnThisDay in 1962 Marvel Comics published the first issue of The Incredible Hulk. Originally, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby designed Hulk with grey skin, but throughout the colouring and printing process more green shades came out, and slowly over the years he became the vibrant green we associate with the character today. #HistoryGetsLIT

TheKidUpstairs It took a few years for the Hulk to find his audience, in 1964 Kirby received a fan letter from a college student, leading the creators to rescript the Hulk towards a more mature audience. 2y

Mehso-so

My book for #egypt month of #foodandlit. It was interesting, but it really shows its age now (simplistic, sexist, old-timey language). This was issue no. 19 of the original Fantastic Four run. I look forward to reading more recent Kang the Conqueror comics.

I know very little of Marvel outside of the MCU so I read The Eternals Omnibus in preparation for the Eternals movie in November. It was interesting seeing the deviants and the eternals and their interactions. However I was disappointed that the original plot line of the celestials returning to earth to judge humanity was not resolved and barely went anywhere. Does anyone know if that storyline is resolved in another run? #eternals #marvel

wanderinglynn I haven‘t read these yet. But @GrilledCheeseSamurai or @TieDyeDude might know. 3y
TieDyeDude This was the full original run, cancelled before resolving plot points. I think it may have continued in a Thor run, but I'm not sure 3y
Light_of_Aether Ohhh, that makes sense. I didn't know it was canceled. Thanks! 3y

This is…definitely not complimentary to Stan Lee, presenting him as petty, talentless in his own right, and a shameless thief of creative property. If it‘s true, it makes me sad. If it‘s not, it makes me angry. If it‘s somewhere in between, it‘s at least making me think. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #truebeliever #theriseandfallofstanlee #stanlee #abrahamriesman #marvelcomics #marvel #steveditko #jackkirby #joesimon #comics

Next in the never-ending library pile! I‘ve heard some stuff about this one (namely that it doesn‘t cast Stan in a very good light), but I‘m tackling it anyway. #truebeliever #theriseandfallofstanlee #stanlee #abrahamriesman #excelsior #marvelcomics #jackkirby #steveditko #joesimon #biography #nonfiction #comicbooks
