Flora and the Flamingo is a F-RA Caldecott honor book about a girl who does a synchronized dance with a flamingo. This is an interactive open-the-flap book with NO WORDS which leaves lots of creativity open to the teacher and students. #UCFLAE3414SP21

melodyp This website https://www.theclassroombookshelf.com/2013/12/flora-and-the-flamingo/ has lots of activities that teachers can use in the classroom to enhance the reading of this book, such as “choosing your own plot line” and “partner picture walks and storytelling”. UDL 5.2 (use multiple tools for construction and composition) and EL 6 (continually monitor students‘ comprehension) are good strategies. 4y
Karissacurrier I love books with no words! I posted about one with no words as well. I love the different activities the recourse has that you included! 4y
DrSpalding Wordless picture books can be quite valuable in the classroom. As you noted it meets universal design principal 5.2 where you could have the students construct their own story! What a wonderful extension activity! 4y

Ace! Love his writing, the way he has female narrator and characters who speak from their inner selves.
This story unfolds to a few real shocks and unforeseen plots. Really great book. ☺😊😍🐱🐈

Super cute. Didn‘t love how cocky and snutty Fabio is. He didn‘t always come across as the nicest of flamingo people. I do however love the artwork. I kind of want a Fabio and Gilbert tattoo.
This is a cute book for kids. A fun short read for a palate cleanser.
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

MusicallyMorgan “The nicest of flamingo people” is a phrase I never thought I‘d read. 😂 5y

The two pictures to the left both top and bottom are Man Cub‘s (I am trying my damnedest to get him to be at least a bit of a reader). The rest are for me

I worked 13.5 hours of overtime last Saturday, but it was worth it. We arranged a #picturebook illustrators‘ studio tour. This is Molly Idle‘s studio where I‘m looking through an early dummy of the tagged book. In case you‘re curious, Molly is as lovely as her illustrations.

emtobiasz 😍 Love her stuff— I‘m so glad to hear she is lovely too! 5y

Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle is a RF picture book like no other. For starters, it tells an incredible story of an unlikely friendship with no words. This Caldecott winning book will make your students appreciate the diversity in literary works, a must have in your elementary classroom library. An “IR” assignment with this book will be amazing to see what students think of the book when discussing it as a group later on. #UCFLAE3414F19

karlasanabria1 The following link provides an amazing lesson plan for this amazing wordless book https://www.chroniclebooks.com/landing-pages/pdfs/flora_flamingo_penguin_discuss.... The UDL Guideline I thought was most pertinent to this story is offering alternatives for visual information (1.3). The ESOL Strategy I found fit well was linking lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge (4). 5y
