CatLass007 Thank you for posting about this. I know someone who would really enjoy this as a gift. 7y
diovival @CatLass007 Wonderful! Glad I could assist. Ha 😁 7y
CatLass007 Of course, I must check it out myself first so I bought the 2017 issues to download!😸😸😸 7y
MoniqueReads305 I love this magazine. I need to renew my subscription for 2018. 7y

PICK!! The stories in this literary magazine are like a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed them all, even the indie spotlight. Happy to see the editing has improved too. And that cover? 😍 #fiyahlit

New word stumped the Nook dictionary so had to Google it. #foundwhilereading #vocabulary

Hooked_on_books That's a great word! I don't think I've ever heard of it before. 7y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk I know that one because in the (Neil Gaiman penned) episode of Doctor Who the telepathic code to enter an older part of the Tardis was "Crimson Eleven Delight Petrichor" and Amy had to connect a sense memory to each of those to get in. Good Lord, I am a geek! 7y
diovival @Hooked_on_books I know, right? It was used to describe the way a lover smelled. I found several fun, new words in this #fiyahlit story. 7y
diovival @TobeyTheScavengerMonk Hahaha! That's okay. You're amongst friends. 7y
SilversReviews I love finding new words. Thanks. 7y

I'm baaaaack. Taking a guilt-free lunch break and reading issue two of Fiyah lit mag. Listening to their Spotify playlist to tune everything else out. Does anyone else enjoy listening to music while reading? #fiyahlit

8leagueboot It definitely depends on the book that I'm reading. I love classical strings when I'm reading high fantasy! 7y
BookNAround I can't listen to music while reading or I risk singing along and not registering what I've read! 7y
diovival @8leagueboot It's usually the setting that influences the kind of background music I go for. Instrumentals if I'm at home and music with lyrics (mostly hip hop/rnb) if I'm riding the bus. Other people's chatter is so distracting and somehow the lyrics help cancel it out. 7y

diovival @BookNAround I can usually do both but every now and then a song will come on that I can't reaist. 💃 7y
batsy I absolutely cannot listen to music when reading 😀 It's easier for me to cancel out people's chatter whereas music makes me want to give it my full concentration. 7y
moranadatter No, but thanks for the reminder to pick up issue 3. 7y
diovival @moranadatter happy to help! 😆 7y

Issue One may have fell a little short of my extremely high expectations, but my excitement for this lit mag has not dampened. It's like a tasting menu of black speculative fiction containing six short stories and an excerpt. I really hope the editing improves in the future issues. A year subscription is cheaper than the cost of a new hardcover or trade paperback. And look at this gorgeous cover artwork created by Geneva Benton. 😍 #fiyahlit

"Fiyah was created out of a similar desire to combat the marginalization of black speculative fiction, and it has been reborn into a political movement where the work of art and literature that celebrates the black imagination is extremely necessary."

Finally reading the first issue! I am so excited. ? This literary magazine is not in the database. Tagged book is unrelated. #fiyahlit
