Finished the #FirstReadof2018
Great intro to a women of colour #canadianauthor ? All the gods and mojo were "new" to me and I loved it all! It was so creative and while some aspects could be guessed at, I was not fully sure if I was right, or how it was working till it was explained.
The characters were charming, imperfect, well developed for there being so many. Will have to read more of Hopkinson in the future!
Thanks to #ReadingWomenChallenge

Bailedbailed

I am so sorry to start the year with a bail. This is my #FirstReadOf2018 but it didn't keep my attention. Come to one third of the story, l still didn't understand what it was about.
I tried to hold in it, it's just a short graphic novel, but l couldn't 😶

I'm going back to Tolkien and Ende 😊

damyantig So sorry you had to bail! I hope the next one goes better! 7y
JazzFeathers @damyantig All the other novels l'm reading are fantastic. I'm just sorry the year started with a bail 😖 7y
damyantig What else are you reading? 7y
JazzFeathers @damyantig One was Beren and Luthien, finished last week. Really really enjoyed it, both the story and the insight into Tolkien's writing process. The other is The Neverending Story, which l'm still reading 7y

While I loved this collection, her first book was better. The poems in this book about her mother hit home. #firstreadof2018

#FirstReadof2018 -listening to this on our car ride back from in-laws. I'd never heard of Hopkinson before but my hubby found this book for me to meet the #FantasyNovelWrittenByAWomanofColor for #ReadingWomenChallenge It's exceeded my expectations & I 💜 how much my perspective has been challenged/pleasantly surprised! Plus! Set in TO- go CA go!

Would've been nice if someone had told the narrator how to pronounce Yonge!😂😂
