Every wondered about the origin behind the word, Wednesday? And why isn‘t it pronounced Wed-nes-day, so weird. Anyway, here you go! I always thought the days of the week were all named for Roman gods - nope! #weirdwordwednesday #weirdwords
Also, an article: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/02/why-wednesday-the-days-of-the-week...

TheBookHippie Oh this is fascinating!!!! 1w
CBee @TheBookHippie I thought I was being lazy by actually choosing the word “Wednesday” but, it ended up being a lot more interesting 🤓 1w

TheBookHippie @CBee it‘s really fun. Look how smart you are!!! 1w
CBee @TheBookHippie aw gee 💚💚💚 1w
CatLass007 It really should be pronounced Wed-nes-day. 1w
Bookwomble I've always pronounced it wed-ns-day 🤷🏻‍♀️ 1w
Daisey Great choice for today‘s word! 1w
kspenmoll I thought the same, from the Romans. This was such fun!!!! 1w
BookmarkTavern How cool! 🤩 1w
dabbe I love learning new things! Thanks, m'dear! 🧡🩶💜 1w
CBee @Bookwomble I say “Wensday” 🤷‍♀️😂 1w
AnnCrystal 👏🏼🤩👍🏼💝💝💝 I loved when I first learned about this...also Woden connects with the God Odin, the chief Norse God. 1w
CBee @AnnCrystal yes, I read that! I really need to read more Norse mythology. (edited) 1w
AnnCrystal @CBee ☺️👌🏼 mythology is incredibly fun.

The name connection for Thursday is my favorite.

Funny thing, is that I've learned a boatload of legends from around the world and realized a few years ago that (in comparison) I know so little about the legends from my own ancestral world 😂🤔🥺 I'm currently on a journey to correct this about myself ☺️💫📚💝.
(edited) 1w
Cuilin I love stuff like this!!!! Thank you for sharing. 1w
CBee @AnnCrystal that sounds fascinating! Best of luck on your journey 💚 1w
CBee @Cuilin yay! So glad 💚 1w
lil1inblue I love this! Etymology is fascinating. 💫 🌟 💫 7d
CBee @lil1inblue the stars you added remind me of “the more you know” 😂😊💚 7d
lil1inblue @CBee That was what I was thinking about! I'm glad someone understood my thought process. 🤣 7d
CBee @lil1inblue from your posts and interacting with you a little, I think I can follow along pretty well. In the midst of our meteorology joint pain journey, we could also start a #randomthoughtsclub 😂😂 7d

A main reason I loved being in education was that pretty much every year everybody started out as a tabula rosa; everyone had a chance to start over. 💚

I took this picture in the Wigan North Western railway station when I was visiting last week! There was a whole alphabet of phrases, and I wish I had had the time to take pictures of all of them!

#WeirdWordWednesday #WeirdWords @CBee

CBee Nice!! Where is this? 1mo
BookmarkTavern @CBee Wigan, England! I was doing some family history stuff in nearby Abram! 1mo

Did you know (I didn‘t) that the cashew is not a nut? It‘s the seed of a cashew apple, classified as a “drupe.” The book, “A Tree a Day,” inspired me to research this - there is a page devoted to The Cashew of Pirangi in Brazil - it‘s enormous! #naturalitsy #weirdwords #weirdwordwednesday

Amiable I did not know this! Interesting info! 2mo
CBee @Amiable and that concludes the #weirdwords edition of “Cyd Investigates” 😂😂🤓🤓 (edited) 2mo

TheBookHippie I am loving this book! 2mo
Megabooks I did know this, and it‘s very cool! Like how the tomato is actually a fruit. Or mushrooms are sexual organs. 😳 2mo
Deblovestoread I just learned this yesterday as I caught up in my reading 🤯 2mo
peanutnine Okay this explains why I'm allergic to nuts except I can eat cashews just fine! 2mo
AllDebooks That's fabulous 👌 2mo
Jas16 I had no idea! 2mo
MonicaLoves2Read I didn't know that. Don't you love learning stuff from reading? I do! 2mo
dabbe Very interesting! I love learning new things! 😍 2mo
CatLass007 Cool. 2mo
CBee @Megabooks wait, mushrooms? Omg 🫣🫣😂😂 2mo
CBee @Deblovestoread I didn‘t read it for three months so I just started with July - that NY “resolution” didn‘t last long 😂 2mo
CBee @peanutnine oh wow! I actually read you shouldn‘t eat cashews if you‘re allergic to nuts which is odd. And even more interesting is that you CAN eat them! Cashews are yummy. (edited) 2mo
Deblovestoread @Megabooks Sat what now? I will never look at a mushroom the same again 🤣🤣🤣 2mo
CBee @Deblovestoread I KNOW 🍄 🫣 2mo
Megabooks “Therefore, a mushroom is more like a genderless fungus penis…” https://www.mycopia.com/blog/1120 Biology is Wild!! @cbee @Deblovestoread 2mo
CBee @Megabooks can I use “fungus penis” as an insult? Cause that‘s like, golden 😂😂😂 2mo
AnnCrystal 🆒 This is incredible 🤩👌🏼💝💝💝 2mo
Megabooks @CBee “quit being a fungus penis!!” Yeah, it works!! 🤣🤣🤣 2mo
CBee @Megabooks YESSSSS 👏🏻👏🏻😂😂 2mo

I know I‘ve done an interesting color words post before, but I just LOVE unique words for colors. Here are a few, and here‘s an article to read: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/59328/19-colors-youve-probably-never-heard
Who knew “puke” and “xanadu” were colors? #weirdwords #weirdwordswednesday

BookmarkTavern Xanadu is a color?!?!?!? 3mo
BookmarkTavern Oh that‘s really pretty! 💚 3mo

CBee @BookmarkTavern I‘m still laughing at “drunk tank pink” 😂😂 3mo
Megabooks My dad always liked the word chartreuse for colors! 3mo
BookmarkTavern Xanadu is used as a training address in the post office, so I‘m going to be giggling about it for a while. 😂 3mo
CBee @BookmarkTavern omg that‘s awesome 😂😂👏🏻👏🏻 3mo
CBee @Megabooks I love that one too! 3mo
Butterfinger I have had a Cyan and a Magenta as students' names and thought that was some pretty cool parents. They have both graduated. 3mo
CBee @Butterfinger oh definitely! I love that ♥️ 3mo
AnnCrystal 🤩🥀💝. 3mo

This word came up in my last read (Saltwater 🙌🏻🙌🏻). It would be so fun to ride one of these! 😊
Here‘s an article about some well-known funiculars around the world: https://www.treehugger.com/fabulous-funiculars-from-around-the-globe-4863745

RaeLovesToRead I've been on funiculars! There was a small one in Scarborough. The biggest I've been on (I think) was Lake Como. Do you have them in the US? 4mo
RaeLovesToRead Ok the ones in the article are enormous! I've not been on one that big!!!!! 4mo
See All 14 Comments
CBee @RaeLovesToRead we do! Not sure how many, but there‘s one a couple hours from me that I might have to check out! 4mo
TheBookHippie I‘ve been on a few and I‘ve been on the Lookout Mountain one, seen the LA one. There‘s one at our zoo it‘s a riot ! 4mo
peanutnine A funicular was mentioned in my last read as well! What are the odds! These seem so cool, I want to ride one! 4mo
ImperfectCJ The article missed this one, which is the one that taught me the word. (Until then, I just called them all trams, which is clearly wrong.): https://www.quebec-cite.com/en/businesses/funiculaire-du-vieux-quebec 4mo
Bookwormjillk I rode one in Pittsburgh. Kind of fun and scary at the same time. 4mo
CBee @TheBookHippie if you ever ever ever get back down to Chattanooga, you better let me know. I‘m like two hours from there! 4mo
CBee @peanutnine small world! I sort of thought it sounded like a body part - like part of the spine or something 😆 4mo
CBee @ImperfectCJ oooo how cool! 4mo
CBee @Bookwormjillk I want to visit the one on Lookout Mountain now. 4mo
Bookwormjillk @CBee I bet that's pretty! 4mo
