A Woman's War Record, 1861-1865 | Septima Maria Collis
post image

Mom and I were searching for a place that was still open after dinner on Monday and stumbled into a shop called The Little Drummer Boy that specializes in Civil War antiques. I bought the tagged book for Mom as an early birthday present, inscribed by the author sometime between 1889 and 1917. The other book is new, written by a friend of the shop owner. #vacationshopping #daythree #shoptwo

Tanisha_A 😍 And very pretty bedspread. 6y

#vacationshopping #daythree #shopone I just realized I didn‘t buy books on our first full day in Gettysburg. That was the day my aunt bought my second hand Folio Society collection! I‘ll let @dsfisher post her books from that shop. These are the ones we bought at the Gettysburg Visitor Center on Monday. The Cyclorama was Ah-May-Zing!!!! Oh, and we met the author of The Little Bugler and had his book signed. 😊

LeahBergen I have The Little Bugler! 👏🏻 6y
Kaye Looks like you found lots of interesting books. Neat photo done in the old fashioned colors too. 6y
Mariposa_Bookworm How awesome! You are close to me in Frederick, Maryland! 6y

Aimeesue The Cyclorama IS amazing! I wish I'd seen the one in Atlanta when we lived near there. Missed opportunities, sigh. 6y
DGRachel @Mariposa_Bookworm I didn‘t realize you‘d moved! We drove through Frederick on our way to DC and drove past the house where my mom grew up. 6y
Suet624 I lived in Gettysburg a very long time ago. Spent a lot of time in the woods where the tourists didn't go. It is a deeply beautiful and very disturbing place. 6y
CoverToCoverGirl Amazing.. I‘ve been and they don‘t call it “ hallowed ground “ for nothing! It‘s like stepping back in time. It‘s like you can sense what occurred there. 😔 6y

Romance/Fantasy both are favorites. I picked Romance and this series by T Gephart. You have to read the Lexi Trilogy first then The Power Station Trilogy and all six books need to be read in order. Lexi is a very strong independent women and as the author Australian the witty one liners and banter had me LOL. T's fav book which inspired her to write is The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe. @ErinSueG @WhiskeyMistress

#crimesagainstcovers #photochallenge #daythree. My Nana tried to save all my childhood books that were damaged. The really bad ones like this live in a plastic tub and when I get a bit nostalgic I flip through them (carefully) from time to time. @ErinSueG

I spend so much time reading, I have had to incorporate exercise into it. So I walk beside my pool where there is space and nothing to crash in to. Sounds weird I know. Also when I do sit, I have my own personal rainforest to enjoy. #backtoreading #booksandnooks #daythree @Tiffy_Reads

monkeygirlsmama That's how I used to talk on the phone. I'd make cycles through the house (on the cordless). I drove everyone else bonkers, but couldn't just sit still and talk for any duration of time. Haha Your view looks very relaxing too. 7y
tpixie Lovely and what a great way/space to use movement and reading!! 7y

It Ends With Us | Colleen Hoover
post image

So, I've spent the first third of this book wondering what the point was of the Ellen diaries and then we get to dinner with Mom. Holy sh**. Now, I see why we have the Ellen diaries. There's no way this ends well. Crap. Crap. Crap. I have to know how this ends, but I can't bear to keep reading. Does that make sense? Anyone else ever feel like that? #LitsyPartyofOne #daythree

Dogearedcopy Absolutely. I whipped through Part I; but had to really drive myself to finish. This was my first, and probably my only, Colleen Hoover. Her writing is excellent and the message important; but too much of a personal struggle for me. It's ironic, as I generally don't go for trigger warnings; but I wish I had paid closer attention to them before I started this one. 8y
DGRachel @Dogearedcopy I understand this is unusual for her - she even says in her author's notes at the end that she typically only writes for entertainment, not for a message, but that this book was personal and special for her. I liked her writing style, so I may try something else later, but oof. I wish I'd paid attention to the trigger warnings, too. 8y
Andrew65 Yes quite often feel like this where a car crash is happening in front of your eyes! 8y
