One of my closest friends gave me a beautiful hard back copy of In The Beginning by Virginia Hamilton. I love folklore and this book is gorgeous. I loaned it to another friend just before her apartment building caught fire. Her entire family had to jump from a second story window. I had to resist the urge to ask her if my book was okay. I had to get another copy. #sundayfunday @BookmarkTavern

And that's a bail! Some interesting stuff, but a lot of stuff so over my head that I was just reading words with no meaning.

Loved the start and the concept, but just felt long and underwhelming. And so many names and descriptions without anything that compelled me emotionally.

I always wonder about pieces like this that are classified as nonfiction but are written from such an internal perspective. Writing in Nin‘s voice is pretty much always going to be a loosing battle. And while the broad strokes biographical details are there, the narrative constructed around them isn‘t really in line with my vision of Nin. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Not for me. I liked the concept and the writing was strong, just felt a bit disjointed and messy. Good news, giving it a try earned me a bingo and one more off #MountTBR. #hailthebail #BookspinBingo

A wonderful book for kids and grown ups which explains the meaning of the cross with simple language and expressive pictures. We love it and read it every year around Easter!
