Lilith: A Novel | Nikki Marmery

Loved the start and the concept, but just felt long and underwhelming. And so many names and descriptions without anything that compelled me emotionally.

Mehso-so

I always wonder about pieces like this that are classified as nonfiction but are written from such an internal perspective. Writing in Nin‘s voice is pretty much always going to be a loosing battle. And while the broad strokes biographical details are there, the narrative constructed around them isn‘t really in line with my vision of Nin. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

IndoorDame Still, the colored pencil illustrations are incredibly evocative, and they tell a story that‘s completely in line with my vision of her. They‘re almost worth a pick all by themselves. 5mo

Not for me. I liked the concept and the writing was strong, just felt a bit disjointed and messy. Good news, giving it a try earned me a bingo and one more off #MountTBR. #hailthebail #BookspinBingo

A wonderful book for kids and grown ups which explains the meaning of the cross with simple language and expressive pictures. We love it and read it every year around Easter!

Excited to be starting this one - Nikki Marmery‘s first book was fantastic.
It‘s not often that a book matches my book pillow so well. 🍅
(I know that‘s a tomato, but we‘re just gonna pretend it‘s a pomegranate, mmmkay?)

GondorGirl I'm really excited about this one! I can't wait to hear what you think! 12mo

If you've ever questioned your faith in a God, read this. If you've ever felt alone and misunderstood as a woman, read this. If you've ever felt your voice is not being heard, read this. I don't think I've ever been more enlightened than while reading this! It truly has changed my life!

Aimeesue Got my copy today! Thanks for posting about it - I‘d totally forgotten the release date! 12mo
KateReadsYA @Aimeesue you're welcome!! 🤩 12mo
brittanyreads I'd really like to read this but saw a warning for graphic animal death. Could you tell me what kind of animal so I can prepare my fragile heart? 🫣😬 Lol 12mo

KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads Animal sacrifice for religious reasons. 12mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads I think it was a cow and lamb! I don't remember it being written super graphic. But to each their own regarding what you can handle for a trigger warning, you know? I get so sad when they constantly talk about abuse in books but it's sacrificing and letting the animal bleed for the God's. Sorry if that's too graphic. 12mo
brittanyreads Thank you for the clarification!! I use storygraph and I love their trigger warning section but sometimes it's very vague. I just can't do detailed, drawn out suffering or if a pet is harmed 😣 12mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads I don't remember anything being too brutal about the animals 12mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads Now the way women were treated that's a whole other story 😒 it's definitely worth a read. 12mo
brittanyreads I could use a good, heavy dose of a strong woman challenging inequality! I hope to pick it up soon! Thank you! 👩‍🦰 12mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads you're welcome. How are you liking Crescent City?? 12mo
brittanyreads It's good! It's amazing how SJM can make you feel nostalgic for characters you've only just met. Her books are always like slipping into a cozy old sweater. Bryce is a little grating as a MFC so I'm hoping she grows on me. I don't have that soft spot for her that I have for Feyre, Manon, or Aelin. But she is feisty which I like haha 12mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads SJM can always write a feisty MC we will learn to love in the end. 12mo
brittanyreads Totally! And side note, I bought Lilith at B&N this afternoon lol 🙃 can't wait to dive in! I'm not really digging Deadly Education. I may finish it, it's short, but I'm wanting to pick up something else 12mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads I'm getting to where if I'm not excited to pick my book up, it's gotta go lol. I am so excited for you to read it. I know some might not like the way she writes about religion, but I felt so enlightened 12mo
brittanyreads Same, girl, same! And sadly I am not wanting to pick up Novick. 🫣 I tend to have a very open mind and had previously not even known about Lilith so I am beyond intrigued!! Lately, I've been on a kick of reimagined villains. Were they really bad or did history just write them that way? I'd also love to get around to this one 12mo
KateReadsYA @BrittanyReads OH yes I was looking that one up the other day. 12mo

1/3 of the way through this one. I have to say the humor is spot on, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
