Pickpick

A great introduction into a rapidly expanding field of research and application. Who knew that plants NEEDED bacteria, fungi, nematodes, and protozoa to thrive? Time to set aside all the dangerous chemicals and team up with the soil food web. Nobody ever fertilized an old growth forest.s

Composting with Worms | George Pilkington

Pickpick

I used to compost back in 2005 with an old job, using wood chippers and massive quantities of food, cardboard and garden waste etc.

I'm now doing it in the garden in a smaller scale and using the worm castings or 'Black gold' to grow fruit and vegetables, which have been coming on great.

This book has been great for expanding my knowledge and if anyone is interested in such things, this is a valuable book to read beforehand.

charl08 I'll have a look for this. I've been thinking about a wormery. 2y

This is a well written, easy to follow, informative book.

It‘s well written, has clear instructions and advice.

It simplifies gardening and gives you the foundation of knowledge you need to get started in growing your own fruit and vegetables.

I'm totally into it and I'm gaining knowledge every day about it.

It's knowledge worth knowing.

In the past 2 months I've begun composting! I love being able to put my food scraps to good use. I have tons of worms who enjoy all the offerings I bring them and I've also seen other critters like toads and this lovely dragonfly (above) by the pile.

Chelsea.Poole I love this! Composting is huge in our household. We have two bins currently. Yours looks awesome! 2y
Catsandbooks @Chelsea.Poole That's wonderful to hear! I have a small bucket inside that I put our daily scraps in and then each day I take it out to the pile. It's become one of my favorite things to see all the worms living their best wormy life turning our scraps into nutrient rich soil! 🪱🥰 2y

I like to take notes of planting times etc - so starting off my 2020 garden journal today. Love this book - it hasn‘t got pictures but it‘s got very very sound advice for the garden novice!

MoonWitch94 Best time for gardening! 🥬🥒🥦🥕🍆 What are you planning on planting? 5y
Mitch @MoonWitch94 we like to grow things that are either hard to buy / expensive (radicchio) or things that taste very very different when grown at home (cucumbers!) 5y
TheAromaofBooks Yes, I need to get planning also! So far I've gotten as far as noting down which “groups“ are getting rotated into which beds haha 5y
