#NBCD Feb 14th
A solid week of releases, tho nothing too mind blowing. #comicsrecs #comicseller
👇individual notes and ratings below👇

nosferatoos 👍Avengers 680: still a solid event. I haven‘t read an Avengers comic since Hickman and this has a very Hickman-lite feel, which isn‘t actually a bad thing. 7y
nosferatoos 👍Captain America 698: after three issues of nothing really happening, the 4th issue of Waid/Samnee‘s run finally seems to have found its footing. (edited) 7y
nosferatoos 👋Cold War 1: I really like Christopher Sebela, he‘s definitely a creator I gravitate towards. And I have really loved a lot of Aftershocks stuff. This feels a little messy and hard to follow though. A lot of that is the art. I had a hard time telling characters apart. (edited) 7y

nosferatoos 👍Doctor Strange 385: I have REALLY enjoyed this story. Donny Cates was a good fit to take over this book (the vin diagram of Jason Aaron and Donny Cates interests and inspiration is just a circle) and I absolutely love Walta on art. I think this is Waltas last issue though and that is very upsetting. 7y
nosferatoos 👋Marvel Two-In-One: at the shop we joked that Jim Cheung, despite being hyped as the series artist, would be off the book by the 3rd issue and LO AND FUCKING BEHOLD... I‘m super tired of this whole bait-and-switch bullshit marvel and dc have been doing for the last few years. My biggest take away from this book is: being 👏 back 👏 the 👏 real 👏 f 👏 f 👏 (edited) 7y
nosferatoos 🙌 New Super-Man and the Justice League of China 20: I LOVE THIS BOOK. It‘s such a hard sell because everyone‘s knee jerk reaction is “oh why is super-man Chinese now dc is the PC police!” First of all, that whole line of reasoning is bad and wrong, second this book is absolutely not that and everyone should check it out. 7y
nosferatoos 👋Sideways 1: I am conflicted on this one. One one hand, Who let Dan Didio‘s 800 year old ass write a teenager? Who keeps letting all these middle aged men write teenagers in 2018 (👀 @ u 2 mark waid). On the other hand, I really love Rocafort‘s art. This is also the first of the “from the pages of Metal” books to actually reference DNM. Despite being an aesthetic rip off of Spider-Man, the first issue is actually pretty interesting. 7y
nosferatoos 👍Twisted Romance 2: This was really cute. Both stories this time around were really cute. The first had really adorable art and the second was all around adorable by one of my favorite creators, Meredith McClaren. I liked this more than the first issue. Hit me with all the bubblegum cute art. 7y
nosferatoos 👎Wonder Woman 40: the entire Silver Swan plot is so fucking stupid and I hate every single thing about it. Please have mercy on me and let this era of Wonder Woman comics end. Also stop letting James Robinson write comics. Starman is the only good thing he‘s ever written (it‘s like 20 years old) and I‘m starting to think that was 100% an accident. 7y

The Backstagers | James Tynion IV

FEBRUARY 7 PULL #ncbd #comicsrecs #comicsretailer
This was a MASSIVE week and I only read a little more than half of what I brought home with me (the other half is stuff I am super behind on 😬)
👇individual notes and ratings in the comments👇

nosferatoos 👍Avengers 679: I‘m liking this more and more as it goes on. I‘m glad it‘s weekly because if I had to wait a month for every issue, I definitely would have dropped it already. 7y
nosferatoos 🙌Backstagers 2018 Valentines Intermission Special: This book is perfect. Backstagers is an adorable series and I absolutely love it. The best part about this is that an intermission is a break between acts so I am choosing to believe that this implies that there will be another 12 issue Backstagers miniseries. 😙👌 7y
nosferatoos 👍Black Bolt 10: this book is barreling towards its schedule end at issue 12 and I am not ready. Everything about this book has been visually beautiful and emotionally captivating. I‘ve been saying since issue 1 that Black Bolt is this years sleeper hit. 7y

nosferatoos 👍Exit Stage Left 2: The Snagglepuss as Tennessee Williams high concept continues to be charming. Will probably never stop being delightful. (edited) 7y
nosferatoos 👍Extremity 11: The epic final battle begins in the penultimate issue of this absolutely breathtaking series. I‘m not ready for it to end next month. 7y
nosferatoos 👋Infinity Countdown Adam Warlock: It‘s fine. It‘s Adam Warlock stuff and Kang Stuff and exactly what you would expect from that. I‘m trying to get excited about Infinity Countdown, but this wasn‘t all that encouraging. The Allred and Allred art is absolutely breathtaking though, which is the only thing keeping this book from being a total 👎 7y
nosferatoos 👍Paper Girls 20: I don‘t have anything new to say about this book but I love everything about it. Except Mac‘s aggressive homophobia, which is brought up multiple times in every issue and getting seriously old. 7y
nosferatoos 👍Runaways 6: I continue to be pleasantly surprised. I have not read anything else by Rainbow Rowel but Marvel‘s long term experiment with hiring YA writers has been an unquestionable failure in most cases (America is unreadable, sorry). This is not the case with Runaways. Rainbow has an obvious love for these characters and it‘s honestly so refreshing to read. 7y
nosferatoos 👍Swamp Thing Winter Special: Devastating. The first story was beautifully written and drawn and it honestly broke my heart. 7y
nosferatoos 👍Twisted Romance 1: First issue in a weekly anthology mini-series by Alex de Campi. The first issue is really promising and i hope it maintains this weirdness. 7y
nosferatoos 👍Young Monsters in Love: Another Valentines anthology book that is more or less an excuse for DC to charge $9.99 for a floppy. It was good. Some stories were better than others. There is ANOTHER devastating Swamp Thing story and a great Deadman anti-bullying one shot by Paul Dini. 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai The only 'Pull' that we have in common this week is Snagglepuss. Fantastic so far! 👌❤️ 7y
nosferatoos @GrilledCheeseSamurai I LOVE snagglepuss. I am trying to convince everyone to give it a chance. 7y

Assassinistas #2 | Tini Howard

COMICS PULL Jan 17 #comicsrecs #ncbd
I got off work early today because of the snow and still didn‘t manage to get this posted before midnight. Here are some comics to look for tomorrow. Assassimistas is my #recoftheweek but over all it was a pretty underwhelming week for books I read.
👇individual ratings and notes in the comments👇

nosferatoos 🙌Assassinistas 2: I am really digging IDW‘s Black Crown line. A college boy and his boyfriend get sucked into his mother‘s life as a retired assassin. The target audience of this book is Me Specifically and I absolutely love it so far. (edited) 7y
nosferatoos 👋Avengers 676: Its fine. I still think the big ~twist~ is dumb but I‘m hoping it pays off in some unexpected way. Mediocrity aside, this book wins for best cover of the week. (edited) 7y
nosferatoos 👋Batwoman 11: I love this series but this is a fill in issue not written by Bennett. It still builds on her story but it‘s definitely a transitional issue and it definitely feels like it. It‘s got a sick Sienkiewicz tho. (edited) 7y

nosferatoos 👋Damage 1: if you‘ve ever thought to yourself “man I wish DC would write Value Brand Marvel Comics” then this is the book for you. Damage is literally just a grittier Hulk. It‘s okay but I‘m still not sure if it‘s enough to make me pick up the second issue. The whole post-metal line is super 90s and not really my thing. (edited) 7y
nosferatoos 👍Doctor Strange 384: I love this ark. This has been consistently one of Marvel‘s best books. Donny Cates takes a lot of cues from Jason Aaron in his writing in general and plays with a lot of the same themes. So having him follow Aaron‘s fantastic run feels so natural. Fingers crossed he takes over Thor when Aaron leaves. Cates is an amazing talent and I hope Marvel keeps him. And the art in this book is SO GOOD btw. 7y
nosferatoos 👋Spirits of Vengeance 4: it‘s fine. The whole series has been fine. I bought this for blade and he‘s barely in it. 7y
nosferatoos 👍Super Sons 11: wraps up the Super Sons of Tomorrow crossover very neatly. I love the Damien/Jon dynamic and it takes a really great turn here. Patrick Gleason has such a good grasp on the voices of these characters and I love it. It‘s also fun to get some Teen Titans in a book without having to read the current Teen Titans book (because it‘s not very good). (edited) 7y
rekahlee @nosferatoos Is Super Sons aimed towards a younger audience? I‘ve been on the fence of adding it cause I like my comics fairly serious. I enjoy humor and banter but I need a more dramatic story at the center 7y
nosferatoos @RekahLee It‘s targeted to the same age range as N52 batgirl. It‘s fine for kids but it‘s now a Kids Comic The was DC‘s Teen Titans Go is. I wouldn‘t call it serious but it‘s not really a kids comic. It‘s a really charming and delightful book. (edited) 7y
