The Hotel Avocado | Bob Mortimer

Mehso-so

This is a direct sequel to The Satsuma Complex which I enjoyed very much. Unfortunately, Bob‘s shtick didn‘t work so well for me here. A smile or two, but no laughs and the story wasn‘t strong enough to make up for it. Not bad, but definitely disappointing.

squirrelbrain Yes, I read reviews that said it wasn‘t anywhere near as good as the first one - but hubby still seemed to enjoy it. (I‘ve read the first but I‘m not desperate to jump into this one!) 3w

In an unusual twist for me, I watched the series of this prior to reading the books as I hadn‘t realized it was a book series first. That said, I really enjoyed this take on the police procedural and that Det Roy Grace as more depth and compassion than many of the literary police detectives. The book hewed closely to the episode of the series but I‘ll definitely be reading more.

Chemicals are not balanced at the pool today, so I guess I‘m gonna sit outside, watch the birds, drink more coffee and read this rather entertaining book instead.

2024 Reads Continued
WYWD - a Quick Reads featuring Roy Grace.

PYD - 18 in the Roy Grace Series. Always enjoy these British Crime novels, this one about art theft and forgeries.

MITC - not as long as her previous novel and the formula remains the same. Romantic thriller.

TSID - Ingenious British crime novel no2 that's shaping to be a very good series.

#serieslove2024 I didn‘t read any Peter James last year so I thought it was high time to check one out again . Roy Grace is on the case of a rapist with a fetish for women in designer high heels .Roy wonders if there are more than one perpetrator and if it links back to an old case that was never solved . A Page Turner!

After the events of the last book, Emma and Sam decided to start a detective agency, and their first case is a doozy. I found the parallel investigations of the police and the detective agency to be a little repetitive, but I liked the story otherwise. I‘d thought it was the last in the series, but Goodreads tells me there‘s at least one more. I‘m glad, because this one opens up some interesting threads for the main characters. #serieslove2024

A soft pick. I enjoyed catching up with old and new characters several years after the events of the last book, but I have to say the dynamic of Emma as bored housewife and Edgar as her clueless husband was a bit annoying. The overall story was interesting. There‘s one more to go in this series, and I already have it in the queue. #serieslove2024 #fabulousfebruary
