pickI struggle with short stories so for #booked2023 I turned to an author who writes stories that feel substantial and never leave me feeling unsatisfied. The themes and characters may feel familiar to a fan of Russo but nothing about these four stories felt stale to me. Instead it was like listening to a old and trusted friend.

A member of the Harlem Renaissance, Nella Larsen was chosen for the New York Times project Overlooked. pickA collection of stories by a Singaporean author which borrows its name from a book written by colonial governor, Frank Swettenham. These stories tell life from the POV of the malays as an ethnic minority in Singapore.
Short stories are not usually my jam but these managed to keep my attention through most of the book. Maybe because the subject matter was closer to home. The illustrations were fun too. #ashortstorycollection #booked2023
so-so8/23 What I learnt from this book of short stories is that I prefer Christie‘s full length mysteries. Not because she isn‘t skillful in the short stories but because I get less time to guess what‘s happened! My favorite story was the last. Great for #192925 #1960 & #booked2023 #ashortstorycollection though.
pickShort stories/essays are not normally my thing, esp. NF. But I really enjoyed these. Even if I never like another Patchett novel again, she‘s definitely someone I could have a chat with and discuss books 📚 I loved the Snoopy one ❤️
