I listened to this one over audio, great narration. What a wild ride of a book. Amber Jamison can‘t believe her bad luck when she‘s abducted by a serial killer. She‘s rescued by a mysterious woman. After Amber leaves college to escape what happened she falls back into her old patterns. Her escape west has her meet a true crime Vegas group & her mysterious rescuer. A story full of twists & a quick, fun listen. #bookspin book

Yet another example of a book from this list that could have been great. I loved the gritty, Western tone; it felt original. Also, focusing on two women recently released from prison was a great premise.

Sadly, though, another book falls short due to poor execution in the end. The book starts strong, then the storyline tries to be too complex and ultimately collapses on itself.

I would read this author again, though.

Ruthiella I‘ve long meant to read her books, but I think I will start with the one that was chosen for Dennis Lahane‘s imprint back in the day. 11mo

squirrelbrain That‘s the second so-so review I‘ve seen for this - plus it‘s not out for a few months yet over here. 11mo
Hooked_on_books Yeah, I felt the same way. Great premise, lots of potential, but too bad it didn‘t deliver. 11mo
Chelsea.Poole I agree! Such promise but didn‘t live up to the potential. 11mo
Megabooks I listened to a bit of the audio and wasn‘t sold. I think I‘ll skip. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 11mo

Great premise—a woman is suddenly released early from prison during the lockdown period of the pandemic. But when she gets on a bus to try to get home, the wheels start to come off. So many opportunities to reflect on incarceration and support for released prisoners, but I found this lacking. #tob24 longlist

A modern day western set during the pandemic, in which prisoners are granted early release and head west to LA. Female-centric, violent, but missing something for me. I‘m worried it was me because I listened to the audiobook and have had a hectic schedule and feel I could have missed some nuances. So take this with a grain of salt, because I‘ve enjoyed the other two I‘ve read of Pochoda‘s.

I didn't love this, but I did find it reasonably entertaining and enjoyed the relationship and growth of the two main characters. While the mystery was certainly central to the story, it was also an excellent vehicle to illustrate the issues in their bond as friends, relatives and business partners. Jason's character was also interesting in his need to see himself as a hero vs certain weaknesses. It could make a good lighter book club pick. 3.75

UNPUTDOWNABLE! Who knew a book about serial killers would be LOL hilarious but also a really good thriller!

Amber Jamison is a whole mess. When she gets kidnapped by a serial killer & is about to be murdered she is upset with herself that it happened to her. Her snark made me snort laugh so much!
But luckily (or maybe not so lucky) she gets saved. And things just get weirder and weirder from there and the twisty tale of a thriller ride begins!

I loved this book. The characters were snarky and fun to read. The serial killer mystery was interesting and the supporting characters were great. The killer was truly evil and was a good adversary. I enjoyed this very much.

This one was recommended to me by a trusted bookseller and it didn‘t disappoint. I loved the dynamics of the characters and how this community of Vegas locals had their network established to be able to get things handled. I even went right along with the potential twist, unsure how things would turn out. This was a fun quick read and I‘d suggest it for anybody who likes murder road vigilante type stories.
