bailedHalfway through this very slim book I had to call it. It‘s such a short book I kept pushing myself to make it to the end but I have absolutely no connection to anything in it. Post apocalyptic, dead but undead, a crow stuffed into her body, hungry….What? So confused. I‘m usually good with fiction that‘s hard to stay with, but I quit. I‘m annoyed about quitting and I‘m annoyed with this book.
Boy, if I were the type to look up every word and reference I don‘t understand while reading this book (“the first Proustian zombie novel” —Slate) and then practice using them, my vocab would be 🔥

🧟♀️ I gave a lot of weight to the “plucky” descriptor when I considered which book had characters fighting the machine. If you like zombie stories, I highly recommend Mira Grant‘s entire Newsflesh series. The characters are definitely plucky!

pickOoh - this book was so good. I went into it not knowing much about it and was delightfully surprised. It is a post-apocalyptic zombie novel - but a *literary* post-apocalyptic zombie novel. As such, it is a beautiful meditation on life and memory and the nature of being, but with some moments that are somewhat humorous or make you go “huh”. Highly recommended!

I first started the tagged in Oct. The premise was intriguing & the beginning showed promise. However, as the story progressed, I lost interest & found that I was forcing myself to read, so I put it aside.
I came back to this book today & only got 2 chapters further than last time. I simply am not enjoying this. Too many things I disliked.
Now it‘s off my shelf & on my Pango shelf!
