The Vampire Lestat | Anne Rice
Mehso-so

This was a re-read for me about 20 years later. Didn‘t like it as much as when I was a teenager. It felt all over the place. Seemed like Rice was backtracking with Lestat‘s character as he seemed very different here and the rest of the series than in Interview with the Vampire. The history of the Theater of the Vampires makes more sense. Relationship with his mom after he makes her a vampire is super weird. Marius‘ story in here was 70 pages.

Tonight‘s supper & book. It‘s been 19 years since I last read MEMNOCH THE DEVIL, and I‘m delighted out of my mind because THAT‘S LONG ENOUGH THAT I‘VE FORGOTTEN STUFF! I used to reread this whole series every April, and I thought I‘d have it memorized forever. Yay! Surprises!

I‘m loving it so far, but one thing I do remember is that I always love New York and the art and the ghost, but I zonk out once Memnoch starts talking. We‘ll see.

If you haven‘t gotten a chance to check out this masterpiece, please do yourself the favor. It‘s bloody brilliant!! I‘ve binged seasons 1 & 2 and now I‘m running to finish Lestat‘s books before season 3. Can‘t wait! 🤩🤩 Anne would have loved this. 🥹

LiseWorks Love this series ❤️ 2mo
ElizaMarie I agree! This is such a great series. My husband and I are watching together, so I can't binge it but... I am enjoying it when we get to see it :) 2mo

Revisiting the story before Season 3....and if you haven't done so by now, WATCH INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, on AMC.
It is simply amazing

Since watching the “Interview with the Vampire” series, I realized that was the only book that I read in the series years ago. I am currently flying through “The Vampire Lestat” and it is fantastic!!!

Honestly my favorite book of all time. Lost count of how many readings! Just shelve any apprehensions and read it! You‘ll have a new hero

Reason for reading: I‘ve been an Anne Rice fan since I was 17 (that‘s appx 500 years for anyone counting; just kidding…I‘m not a gorgeous or angsty immortal vampire being—or am I?).

The good: Lestat is the same old Brat Prince he ever was, so if you‘re into that…

The bad: 300 pgs too long, way too much talking.

Conclusion: I didn‘t hate this book but I did a mini groan every time I picked it up & I was so happy to be done with it.

Screenshot from Books in the Freezer insta-reel. A hilarious annotation inspired by if Lestat was written during GRWM popularity.
Annotation reads: Hey guys, welcome back to my YouTube channel.

#doublespin done! Another reread of the vampire chronicles and I enjoyed this! A lot of reviews mention it being rambly but I always quite enjoy Anne Rice‘s little philosophical diversions… and I bloody love Lestat and how much he loves himself 😆

This also fits into #promptmaze as a dubious ‘glow-up‘ (body swapping!) - could also have been categorised as make up or break up honestly but glow up felt most appropriate!

Emilymdxn I just finished rereading interview with the vampire I really want to do the whole series now! 11mo
bekakins @Emilymdxn I am re-reading them (plus the Mayfair Witches) extremely slowly after having interview as a team read in Scarathlon 2022! I find I can‘t read them in quick succession as they‘re so dense but really enjoying dipping back into them as an adult (I was OBSESSED as a teen!) 11mo
