The Paris Apartment | Lucy Foley

Jess is broke and alone, and she‘s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances. Her half-brother Ben didn‘t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn‘t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris. Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he‘s not there.

EadieB The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother‘s situation, and the more questions she has. Ben‘s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it‘s starting to look like it‘s Ben‘s future that‘s in question. Everyone‘s a neighbor. Everyone‘s a suspect. And everyone knows something they‘re not telling. 2y
EadieB This is a very interesting book with short chapters, different POV's and plenty of secrets. The characters are unreliable and suspicious. The twisty plot is entertaining and fast-paced. The apartment is a great atmosphere for a creepy disappearance. If you like unreliable, mysterious narrators then you will love this book. I look forward to Lucy Foley's next book. 2y

The Winners | Fredrik Backman

This is a great finale to The Beartown trilogy. It's a little long and starts out slow but what a impactful story. The people of Beartown still feel the bite from the first book and now they want to close down the two hockey rinks in Beartown and Hed. They want to start a brand new hockey rink for both towns.

EadieB So what are the residents of Beartown willing to sacrifice for their home? The main themes of the book are corruption, abuse, rape, politics, power, money, hypocrisy, pure rage. There are plenty of characters to learn about who are good and bad. Some of the characters have come back and some are new. This is a book you need to read in order to get the full impact of the book. 2y
EadieB If you like books about a small town then you will love this book. I look forward to reading more from Backman in future books to come. 2y

Andrew65 An excellent ending to the series. As always with Backman a mixture of emotions throughout the book. 2y
EadieB @Andrew65 It was good but a little bit too long for me. Could have been cut back, I think! 2y
Andrew65 @EadieB Yes much longer than it needed to be. 2y
