EL 17 “Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial expressions “ This can be easily done through a read aloud (RA) by reading with different gestures and facial expressions. 7y

Jack and the Beam Stalk | Jane Jerrard

Jack and the Beanstalk is a TL adapted by Jane Jerrard and illustrated by Susan Spellman. A classic story featuring Jack, a poor boy, who goes out to sell his cow and instead trades her for 5 magic beans. When his mother discovers what he has done she throws the beans out the window- and they grow into a giant beanstalk! He climbs it and finds giants! This book is perfect for RT utilizing UDL strategy 1.2 to provide alternative auditory info.

DrSpalding A wonderful readers theater selection and also a great choice for storytelling. Being able to identify the key events in the story in a sequence is a standard that children must accomplish. Good choice. 7y

The Girl Who Drank the Moon is a MF Newbery Award Winner by Kelly Barnhill. Kelly tells a story rich in magic and mystery about an enmagicked girl, the Bog, a witch, a mad woman, and a Perfectly Tiny Dragon. With multidimensional characters and a plot that keeps you guessing- this book is a must read! Best used as a LC, I would use ESOL strategy 1 to teach questioning for clarification and UDL 3.3 to guide the student through the text.

In this P book by Ludwig Bemelmans we are introduced to the feisty Madeline. She may be the smallest of the girls in two straight lines, but she's not scared of tigers or mice and she loves snow and ice! LaurenR I use to watch this as a kid when it was a cartoon! I wasn't aware there was a book. Now I'm excited to check it out, I don't even remember what any of it was about but I had to wake up early on the weekend just to see it ! 7y

Girl Who Ran: Bobbi Gibb, the First Women to Run the Boston Marathon | Frances Poletti

Bobbi Gibb loves to run and when she sees the Boston Marathon runners for the first time she knows she has to be a part of it. This book with vivid watercolors that accompany narration and couplets is a great way to get students into biographies. Best used as a DR, this B about perseverance through adversity is a great addition to any classroom. I would use UDL strategy 2.2 to clarify couplets and narration and EL 4 to link prior knowledge
