#StorySettings Day 3: #AirportOrPlane - posting in advance because will be in an airport and plane (3 in total) tomorrow as we travel Abu Dhabi ➡️ Doha ➡️ Oslo ➡️ Bodø just like tomorrow‘s prompt. Over and above this picturebook providing a detailed description of what to expect in airports, the “diverse” element is a given rather than explicitly articulated or pounded over the head of the reader. This storybook tells about the journey of young refugees. Simple objects provide comfort in uncertain times as they struggle to define where “here“ is when it isn't home. With a little imagination, a cup becomes a boat, a blanket a sail, and so on to aid them on their journey.

#SummerSpecial Day 2: Not just any #boat but a Story #Boat. Narrated in lyrical text that builds up on words and phrases cumulatively leading to the next stop in one‘s journey, and accompanied by art that is both heartfelt and hopeful – is of its own league altogether. My review here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-mAF perfect for #DecolonizeReading2023 too.

4 ⭐ Lars can make friends anywhere. His new friend is Sasha the tiger who just wants to see the ocean. But as usual for Lars he got a little lost. But new friends along the way will help Sasha find home and Lars make it back to his dad. Love these books! I love the heart. I love the sentiment. I love the illustration. They just work.

This is a story about fleeing refugees. Yet the children create a story from the items they come across. A cup becomes and boat. A blanket the sail. All to help them find where “here” is for them. As they‘re ever moving. Simple yet oh so heartfelt.

My daughter loves the Jolly Postman books but frankly if I never read them again it will be too soon! I swear I recite them in my sleep! So we're always looking for similar books. This one features (non-removable) postcards from Sunny as he visits relatives around the world only to realise there's no place like home. The illustrations & design are wonderful & there's info about the various species of meerkat/mongoose as well. Sweet & fun.

7th read for #BookSpinBonanza...

If you've ever thought that maybe time was like a map of New Jersey and space was like a poppyseed bagel, this may be the book for you. It's also a great read if you love popsicles.

As always, Pinkwater is completely ridiculous and definitely not for everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed this reread.

MemoirsForMe This sounds hilarious! 😂 5y
vlwelser I'm adding this. You had me at popsicles. 5y
TheAromaofBooks @UwannaPublishme @vlwelser - Pinkwater is kind of a marmite author... people either thing his stuff is way too bizarre to be funny (my mom - and she has an excellent sense of humor in general), or they snort with laughter the entire time and want to read quotes from every page to whomever happens to be in the room. This isn't my total favorite of his - that's The Snarkout Boys & the Avocado of Death - but it was still a fun reread. And short!! 5y
