Generally good artwork, mediocre story = meh 😐
Joker is released from Arkham Asylum because 🤷‍♂️ and immediately goes on a standard Joker murderous rampage. Billed as giving psychological insight into his character, but it utterly fails to do so. But as I say, pretty, if gory, pictures. Just barely 3🃏

TieDyeDude Lee Bermejo is one of my favorite comic artists. I think I read this, but it obviously didn't leave much of an impression. I really liked his Christmas carol adaption, Batman Noel. 4mo
Bookwomble @TieDyeDude It appears to be on lots of "Top GN" lists, and compared to The Killing Joke, but it suffers in that comparison, I think. I wasn't aware of Bermejo before this, and his art is its saving grace. My comics obsession abated about 10 years ago due to overhyped offerings of this kind, and interminable crossovers and title proliferation of my fave characters. It was easier to stop reading altogether than only get part of the story. 4mo
TieDyeDude It is a lot. I tried reading the Tom King “City of Bane“ storyline, but it was inextricably tied to the preceding 74 issues, and not very enjoyable ultimately. @vivastory pointed out that, for DC at least, the Black Label miniseries are self-contained and generally geared more mature. If Joker is one of your favorites, though, I'll mention that I really didn't like the Three Jokers series. 4mo

Pickpick

This, although a pick, is a mixed review. Story-wise, I enjoyed it. This was probably the scariest I‘ve seen of the Joker. Overall, super creepy and dark. And I love that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

But as I was reading, I felt like I had read some of it, while some of it seemed fresh… and that‘s when I found out that they took most of Batman: Endgame, and shoved some new stories in and republished it as a whole different book. Not cool. Slightly skeevy. ⭐️

When you think you‘ve read the whole Snyder Batman run last year (in the goal of finishing all your GN TBR pile), and then your friend finds a random GN at the dollar store…. 😳

Absolutely amazing comic. Never read this before and it is a great view on the end of the battle between joker and batman. Ivonic and beautiful.

JOKER My favorite movie I saw this year ... & I really hoped Joaquin Phoenix would get the Oscar for his performance... his speech was beautiful

“Run to the rescue with love and peace will follow”
His speech was written & spoken with love.

TrishB Hubby loved the film and said this was well deserved. I haven‘t seen! 5y
Suet624 Even better, that quote was from his brother, River. 5y

Overall, I found this to be ok.
It's not a new look or theme of what makes the Joker in essence Joker and to be honest, it's not a new idea either.

Told from the perspective of a low-level thug, Johnny Frost, Brian Azzarello took me across Gotham to read this and I wasn't OMG invested or interested because it feels like I've read something similar.

Creepy and definitely a less comedic version of the Joker we know from TV and film. A very interesting story

Mixed reviews.... went to see it with Husband today ... so glad I did. Visually beautiful ✨Joaquin Phoenix is amazing. Really loved this ... lots of thinking to be done now ... Brilliant ♥️

alisiakae I‘m on the fence about seeing this, since I love both Heath Ledger and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. They are hard acts to compete with! (edited) 5y
Cathythoughts @4thhouseontheleft I didn‘t see those movies .. so I can‘t compare. But I agree 2 Great actors... this movie is from a different perspective ( I think ) ... be interested to hear your thoughts if you go 👍🏻 5y
batsy I felt the same. Visually affecting and beautiful and the best thing to me is how much he conveys through movement and changing body language. Really remarkable! 5y

Does this count as scary enough to go for a #scarathlon #teamslaughter point @Clwojick ?
