The wrath of the Taliban is depressing and traumatic and her story is no exception. Malala ‘s father is pro women‘s education where only men get it. The Pashtun tribe of Pakistan is very peaceful and has lots of passed down wisdom, and devotion to the peaceful religion of Islam. Life was good for her and her family.

People forgot about her, in my opinion. She‘s a brave and strong woman who deserves our respect by reading her book.

The Breadwinner was a journey to remember with twists and turns to cherish. The story of a girl and her family against the Taliban soldiers was excellently executed. Parvana, the protagonist, is burdened with the duty of becoming the breadwinner of the family after her father was taken by the soldiers. The family go through a dark time before Parvana comes across Mrs Weera her gym teacher from before the war.

Alaina.Doherty After Mrs Weera gets everyone back on their feet she comes up with a clever idea to make Parvana appear like a boy. She is to change her appearance, name, clothes, and personality to blend in as a boy because women and girls are not to be seen. Parvana was brave and courageous while her family is in need. During this book Parvana meets people from her past life before being forced out of school; including her old friend, Shauzia. 2w
Alaina.Doherty The two girls find each other and decides to become business partners to help each other out. She is faced with challenges but Shauzia and Parvana‘s ideas to make money work very well and they can stay on their feet. They go on journeys and challenge ideas so they can help their families and help themselves. 2w
Alaina.Doherty Parvana faces what the Taliban do to people, and is afraid of her life to come. This first person novel is truly fantastic and I wouldn‘t judge the cover on this one. 2w

This would be a great book to have discussion on gender roles and lives of those living in a society with gender norms

There were some slow parts, but it was still a good book about a girl living through the Taliban takeover.

Great story to challenge traditional gender roles especially in a country in which gender roles do not have the option to be challenged
