This was my introduction to Bowen's mystery series set in Regina, Saskatchewan. I enjoyed the story and especially liked the characters and will be looking out for more books in this series.

Mehso-so

Actually my favourite chapter was the one with the two owls (Mowat used those owls in his fictional kids‘ story, “Owls in the Family”). The book was more like short stories, but that‘s ok. Mutt was a character. A lot of people seem to consider this a children‘s book, but I didn‘t think it read that way. A boy and his dog, sure. I suppose that would appeal, but it didn‘t seem particularly written for kids. I‘m rating it good.

Breakfast reading with Cooper. He‘s my little shadow, this guy. The other dogs sometimes wander off to do their own things, but Coopy‘s never very far away. I think he especially likes reading time because it‘s prime snuggle time.

Mehso-so

I maybe made a mistake in listening to the audio. Maria herself read it, but she has a very monotone voice. I thought that I was still able to focus in the first half or so of the book, but I did miss things as the book continued, and I suspect I missed more earlier in the book than I originally thought

Bailedbailed

I read the French translation of this book by Alain Roy. The content and structure of the book was fine, but the translation was heavy going and had weird notes (like specifying that « agent provocateur » was in French in an English source document). It took me five renewals to get not even halfway through, so back to the library it goes.

TheAromaofBooks At least it's off the list! 2y
rabbitprincess @TheAromaofBooks Indeed it is! I think that one had been on my Goodreads list for over 10 years! 2y
TheAromaofBooks Honestly, some of the books I added back in the mists of time - 10-15 years ago - I think partially I've changed as a person and a reader, so not all of those books hold the same appeal for me as they did at the time that I stuck them on my TBR. Many of them still work for me, obviously, but I can also tell when I was going through a bit of a phase sometimes 😂 2y
rabbitprincess @TheAromaofBooks Haha yes there are more than a few books like that on my list! 2y
