I totally requested this #ARC based solely on the title and cover, so I was thrilled when I realized how great the writing and story was as well. Kate Flannery was one of the original American Apparel girls who rose to “cult status” in the early 2000‘s. This is her first hand account of the chaos and debauchery that went on at this iconic clothing brand. Everyone was clamoring to wear the American Apparel label, which featured no logo 👇🏼

Cinfhen but was easily recognizable by its ultimate California casual vibe. It‘s founder Dov Charney had an unusual approach to managing, marketing and running a business that was more monkey business than anything else. Audio read by author was perfect. #NetGalley #PublishesTuesday (edited) 1y
Deblovestoread Sounds good! 1y
squirrelbrain And of course, I can‘t get it over here…🙄 I‘ll keep looking out for it though. 1y

CoffeeAndABook Oh wow, how interesting!! I had no idea about the details but remember the brand well. We even had a shop in Cologne for a while! I‘ll be on the lookout for this one 😁 1y
Cinfhen It‘s full of early aughts nostalgia and a reminder of the toxic work environment before #MeToo - it‘s really good @CoffeeAndABook @squirrelbrain @Deblovestoread - this would be great for #TitlesAndTunes #PopCulture 😉 1y
Megabooks Stacked!! 1y
britt_brooke I almost requested this … same reason. Happy to know it‘s a good read! 1y
Cinfhen I think you‘d both really appreciated this memoir @Megabooks @britt_brooke ♥️ 1y

#ARC #NetGalley #PublishesTuesday This was a fun, lighthearted novel about an immigrant family living in Canada who own and operate a nail salon. When a big, luxury chain opens up across the street from the Tran Family‘s salon desperate measures are taken by all members of the family to keep the salon open. Parts of the novel were a little unrealistic but it didn‘t take away from this entertaining story about family love and chasing dreams💕

Wow! This was super interesting - Author Sarah Viren shares two major events in her life one from the past the other in the present, to explain the complexities of understanding and proving the concept of truth. “What is true? And how do you know?” In HS, a beloved teacher shares his thoughts on Holocaust denial, basically causing Sarah and her classmates to question the validity of the Holocaust, an accusation that has haunted her. 👇🏼

Cinfhen In 2016, now married, a mother and a professor of NF creative writing at Arizona State her spouse is accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with her students. A blatant lie, presented as truth that Sarah and her wife now need to disprove.
1y
Cinfhen Sarah is faced with ethical, moral and philosophical questions of how to handle all the lies we are told but often accept as truth. It‘s a strange book, a fascinating case once the fraud is exposed and we ( the reader) sort of discovers who is behind the sexual harassment claims. 1y
Cinfhen #ARC #NetGalley #publishesTuesday 6/13/23 - I spent wayyyyy too much time down the Google rabbit hole. I‘m dying to know who “J” is, if anyone knows please share 🫶🏼 (edited) 1y
squirrelbrain Sounds fascinating- stacked. 1y
Cinfhen It‘s probably a #BorrowNotBuy @squirrelbrain but definitely thought provoking 1y

Yay!! My #LastFirst was SO GOOD!!!! Definitely my favorite from Jane Harper and a wonderful addition to her Aaron Falk series. A mom of two goes missing at a local fairgrounds- was it foul play or did the stresses of motherhood lead to her disappearance ?? A true literary thriller that was both suspenseful and believable!! #52BookClub23 #SetInAustralia but would work for multiple prompts #PublishesTuesday #NetGalley #MustRead

Lizpixie I loved that this was a Falk book, the story was brilliant but I agree @CarolynM that it didn‘t have as much of a sense of place as her other books. 2y
Cinfhen That‘s true @CarolynM @Lizpixie but as an “outsider” I felt like I got a good sense of a small town Australian city 😁 it felt very authentic and the story was SO GOOD 2y

Upgrade: A Novel | Blake Crouch

Sorry book, it‘s me not you…I just don‘t appreciate #SciFiThrillers in print format. If this was a movie, I would have been HIGHLY amused but as a book it didn‘t land right. Towards the end I was more engaged and wanted to see how it would all play out. My biggest gripe though, was the not so subtle preaching from the author. So it‘s a light pick from me but that doesn‘t mean others will LOVE it. #ARC #NetGalley #PublishesTuesday

Cathythoughts This kindle case will have to auctioned if you ever give it up 😁💫 2y

BookNerd9906 Can‘t wait to hear your thoughts, I love Blake Crouch! 2y
Centique I haven‘t read a Blake Crouch yet but this sounded so good I have it on hold at the library. Fingers crossed it‘s not too “thriller” for me…. 2y
Cinfhen I‘m liking it not loving it @Centique it‘s a bit too sciency for me 🤓 I think his best book is still this one 2y

I started this last week but I wasn‘t feeling it. Now I spent two hours struggling to read more as it #PublishesTuesday but it‘s soooo SLOWWWW / im at 54% although I did hear it picks up towards the end 🤪#NetGalley #ARC

Megabooks I hate slow-paced books most of the time. 2y
