#photobookchallenge day 28 - read this month

I was lucky enough to receive this book on Netgalley. It is a pointed and deeply necessary analysis of police brutality in the US, with a specific look at Black Lives Matter. Not an easy read, but one that needs to be faced.

Next month I'm doing #DiverseBookMar - are you?

SuperPunkNinja Such a good book! 8y

#photobookchallenge day 27 - freebie

I was so honoured to receive a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a review! It is a truly remarkable collection of short stories that explore some of the many experiences of being a queer person of colour.

#photobookchallenge day 26 - banned book

I didn't want to go with one of the classic banned books, so I chose Kaffir Boy! It is an autobiography of Mark Mathabane, a South African who was raised in Johannesburg during Apartheid. Since I recently read Trevor Nunn's Born A Crime, I feel like I need to read more about this period. Any recs for me?

#photobookchallenge day 25 - LOVE this book

This was by far one of the best reads of 2016 for me. I would seriously recommend all of Nnedi Okorafor's novels - deceptively simple, they have badass world building and intensely real characters.

SuperPunkNinja I second that! 🤘🤘🤘 8y
ReadingEnvy I think this is the same book as 8y
whatthelog @ReadingEnvy yup, it has been released under a different title in the US AND UK 8y

#photobookchallenge day 23 - reading playlist

OK so I am actually in love with the album Awaken, My Love! by Childish Gambino/Donald Glover. It is sorta like Prince, and so ridiculously clever. I've never heard anything like it, and I've been listening to it on repeat for the last month!

#photobookchallenge day 22 - historical fiction

OK so this isn't historical FICTION but I couldn't go through #blackhistorymonth without mentioning Ta-Nehisi Coates. This is the first book I ever read that really went into detail about the Black Panthers, and what it means to be a man of revolution. Beautifully written, this is a book that packs punches.

This is such a fantastic autobiography that I'm reading for uni - and well. 'A wall is just a wall' is a ridiculously timely message right now.
