Yesterday my youngest participated in the school district‘s social studies & science fair. As soon as she saw the brochure she said she wanted to do it (so huge for a kid with lots of anxiety). She said she wanted to do her presentation on Mae Jemison. She‘s worked hard for the last few weeks. She was interviewed by teachers & high school students. One of the teachers thanked her for highlighting such an important person in history. When asked why

ncsufoxes she chose this person she said, “she‘s my idol, I want to be an engineer & astronaut just like her.” She was the only 3rd grader from her school to participate too. 2w
AmyG Fabulous! May her dream come true. Girls in stem rock!!! 2w
Reggie This is soooo awesome! Good for her! 7d

Looking for chapter book recommendations for an almost 10 year old girl. I want to continue to find more chapter books for my daughter with strong female characters. In this pre-handmaiden era I want her to continue to read more about strong girls/women, even better if by women. We have Enola Holmes, just finished Wild Robot series. She‘s a more advanced reader than her brothers were & loves reading. Pic of books for Easter -our bunny brings books

Girls should continue to be encouraged to pursue careers in science and STEM. As you can see I have a daughter that dreams of being an astronaut. She said in a future letter to herself that she wants to be an engineer, the astronaut that is there to fix any problems on the space shuttle. We talk a lot about the long & hard road of becoming an astronaut (which will now be harder with recent roll backs in women being able to have an equitable space

ncsufoxes in education & work places). We will continue to support her, encourage her, fight for her, provide women roll models in space & science for her to look up to, provide opportunities for her to achieve her goals & dreams. 2mo
Texreader ♥️♥️♥️ love this!! My son is studying aerospace engineering at an aeronautical university. Your daughter should consider going to Embry Riddle University, one of the top if not the top aeronautical university in the country. Its students appear to have their pick of employment! I hope she becomes an astronaut or wherever her dreams take her!!! 2mo

AmyG It should only happen for her! I have a daughter who codes. GIRLS ROCK! 2mo
ncsufoxes @Texreader she‘s only 9 so we have a few years. We took her to NC State last year when we were in Raleigh (my husband & I both went there for undergrad). She knows they have an engineering program. Christine Koch went there & is an astronaut. Luckily she loves science & math (my husband is a scientist). It‘s something she has been talking about since she was 4. She‘s quick to tell anyone her dream & shuts down people who tell her she can‘t do it 2mo
ncsufoxes @AmyG we buy lots of things that encourage science & math (Legos, snap circuits, puzzles, games, science supplies). We have tons of books about space. Now that she‘s getting older we need to take her to some air & space museums (luckily we‘re close to 2). We tell our kids all the time that we‘ll help them whatever way we can to achieve their dreams, they just have to work hard (unfortunately girls have to work harder). 2mo
AmyG Girls have to work harder….only to get paid less. 😡🤬 2mo
Amiable @Texreader @ncsufoxes My youngest son is a graduate of the University of Maryland Clark School of Engineering—ranked in the top 10 aerospace engineering programs in the country. He has a degree in aerospace engineering with a concentration in space systems design and had job offers before graduation. I know you live near College Park —you should take her for a tour! 1. Burnt out and about to crash HARD. Everything is too much right now both personally and publicly.
2. Zone out. TV that feeds my interests, try to read, try to avoid the news, less social media, podcasts, and music.
3. 🤷🏼‍♀️ my brain has checked out for the night lol

DogMomIrene Avoiding the news has helped so much! 2mo
OrangeMooseReads @DogMomIrene it does. Avoiding it all together conflicts with my need to know though so I have to delve in once and a while lol 😆 2mo
DogMomIrene @OrangeMooseReads Yes! I pared down my news notifications to 2 sources. This way I know things. I will open some stories to stay in the know, but I‘m not being bombarded by like 6 or more different news apps. That was too many. 2mo

“Earth is part of the solar system.“

This book was published in 2020. This book provides a lot of information on the planets in our solar system. This book can be good to introduce space before the unit. Many students are interested in space and want to learn more about it. This book could become a resource to those students.

Pickpick

I thought this book was very informational and gave a detailed description of all the different types of planets in our solar system.
