Love, love, love this book! Told through the lens of a high school boy who travels to Iran to visit relatives, this is a story of self-discovery, the importance of friendship, and what it means to be family. ❤️ The author does a fantastic job of helping readers understand depression as well as Iranian culture. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #oregonbattleofthebooks

This took me a lot longer to read than it should have...I just couldn‘t get into it. A story of a middle school boy growing up in poverty on an Indian reservation in the 1970s. I was excited to read this at first, but I think it had too many unnecessary conversations, minor plot lines, etc. and could have used some more editing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #oregonbattleofthebooks

Finished this while my son is in surgery and I have to wait in the car! 😭 It is a great story about a middle school boy in need of a cornea transplant. Also about love and friendship and being brave and so much more. ❤️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Now just nervously waiting for my own boy to be awake again. 😬 #oregonbattleofthebooks

Sace I hope all goes well and he has a swift recovery! 5y
BookDragonNotWorm Sending healing thoughts his way. Hope all went well. 5y
Onceuponatime @Sace @BookDragonNotWorm Thank you! ❤️ The surgery went well and he is home doing great. As a mom, I was just nervous about him going under general anesthesia, but all went well! 😅 5y

This middle grade story, though fictional, was inspired by Malala Yousafzai and other girls who take a stand against inequality. Simple enough for young readers, it brings awareness to the oppression of girls and women in Pakistan. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #oregonbattleofthebooks

Told from the perspective of a 12-year-old black boy who was shot and killed by a white police officer, this book is so relevant and well-written for middle school readers. #blacklivesmatter ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #oregonbattleofthebooks

ScrappyMags Looks good - would you say it‘s gritty or more cozy in the mystery department? 5y
Onceuponatime @ScrappyMags It‘s a bit gritty...still YA, but there is some violence. It‘s not really a mystery, but more of a dystopian. Very emotional, though...the story just flew by! (edited) 5y

A cute middle grade story about a seventh grader‘s journey of self discovery and embracing how she fits in. I had a few minor issues with the story, but it‘s humorous enough that middle schoolers will like it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
