Look what my library just done did! Gave me notice of a whole slew of titles now available on Libby!!!! VERY exciting 🎉 Happy (?!) Banned Books Week! #LibrariesMatter

ChaoticMissAdventures I have heard that the changes they made in Libby were supposed to make things available to more people quicker! 1mo

Despite some dragging chapters in this story, the overall plot was interesting I thought I knew how the story would resolve until a twist reminded me about assumptions. Then I was curious if the twist was just for that reminder or if it would alter where I thought the story would go. This story brings up this sort of hierarchy within the East Asian immigrant community to which I was unaware.

It‘s special when an author can take multiple points of view, combine them with a non-linear timeline and emerge with a cohesive, satisfying, thought-provoking story. Cummins achieves that here with a story of 3 generations of Puerto Rican women struggling to understand their unique identities and learning to care for each other. A richly told story with compelling characters, this story about identity, family, and belonging is not to be missed.

Very similar to their other collection: My Nest Isn't Empty...
Cute, and lighthearted, but I felt like I'd already read it.

49/80

Multi-generational POV novel, that jumps characters and time periods to help the reader understand each character. Great writing, good characters and beautiful settings, make this a page turner. The racism- blatant and covert- was believable, with generations of the family searching for “home”.

Several years back during a read across the USA challenge I realized I‘d never read a book set in Puerto Rico. Ever since I‘ve been drawn to read this location. This was very good story telling using 3 generations to weave together a story of displacement, assimilation, and rediscovering of roots (as well as which roots and why you are drawn to the discovery).

Prairiegirl_reading I am curious about this one because I haven‘t read anything set in Puerto Rico. If you liked it there is a good chance I‘ll like it too. I‘m putting it in the list! 6mo
marleed @Prairiegirl_reading I think you‘ll enjoy it because the characters love Puerto Rico and their heritage. 6mo
Prairiegirl_reading @marleed that‘s perfect! Thanks! 😊 6mo

Mini book haul. My husband was playing an outdoor gig and there was a church yard sale going on next door, so I _had_ to go visit it, right?

TheBookHippie Oh nice picks!!!! Isn‘t a given you must go? 6mo
