pickMy last book for #MiddlreGradeMarch was this novel in verse about an undocumented girl in East LA who ends up in detention with her mother facing inhumane conditions after her father is deported to Mexico. While hope and beauty were constant themes throughout, this was raw and completely heartbreaking. This is definitely a story younger kids will get a lot out of, but they may need adult help to process it and the emotions it brings up.
