1. I ❤️ having a group of kindred spirits to discuss books with. We may not all like the same books, but the important thing is that we all ❤️ books.
2. I‘m interested in most things, although I haven‘t done any swaps in awhile. And I love how Litsy has expanded my TBR. Also #catsoflitsy 😸
3. I wish there were a way to organize our followerers/followees. I have so many in my feed, I feel like I‘m sometimes missing things. #litsyquestionnaire ⬇️

rubyslippersreads 4. I used to post every day, but I‘ve gotten lazy. This discussion is making me resolve to be more active, because there‘s really no place like Litsy. 🌈👠 #keeplitsyactive #keeplitsyalive
5. I love readalongs/buddy reads, especially when they make me read a book I‘ve had on my TBR for ages. I like some of the questionnaires, but haven‘t done any readathons.
6. Make the app stop crashing after a new post in iOS. ⬇️
(edited) 5y
rubyslippersreads P. S. For those who think Litsy has slowed down, my cats blame #JohnnyBergen for distracting @LeahBergen from reading and posting. 😹 5y
ljuliel Thanks very much for taking time to reply. I like your added decorations on the screen. Very cute ! 🐈 ☕️ 5y
ljuliel I just had to go to Leah‘s page to see who Johnny was. He is so cute. I like that one spotted ear. 5y

#litsyquestionnaire No one asked me but I have a lot of thoughts about this so I‘m doing it anyway. Hope it doesn‘t end up TOO long.
1️⃣ The focus on books and book talk rather than aesthetics or average ratings or how many people are reading a certain book.
2️⃣ Any litsy post that‘s hashtagged like an instagram post. Swaps (more on this later).
3️⃣ ▪️A method to sort/see only reviews OR blurbs OR quotes for a given book

⬇️MORE⬇️

twohectobooks 3️⃣ cont‘d ▪️a method to see my own posts about a book ▪️a fix for the fact the app crashes every time I create a new post (? I think I‘m the only one who has this issue) (edited) 5y
twohectobooks 4️⃣ so rarely! Between 1-5 times per week 5y
rubyslippersreads @twohectobooks My IPad and iPhone both crash when I create a new post. 😠 5y
See All 16 Comments
twohectobooks 5️⃣ ▪️Readathons - yes! If I don‘t have time I don‘t participate but love to see others enjoying themselves together ▪️Readalongs - yes! Same as previous ▪️Questionnaires - yes! Same as previous ▪️Swaps - so tbh this is one thing about litsy that kinda bugs me but there are so many swaps. I can‘t afford to participate and feel really uncomfortable giving out contact info and since I only use the app on my phone it‘s so hard to tune them out. 5y
twohectobooks @rubyslippersreads ah, so I‘m not the only one! I‘ve never seen anyone mention this issue before! 5y
twohectobooks 6️⃣ Besides my other suggestions, it just frankly needs to be easier to find other users (eg see who else likes similar books to you, is in your area, etc), interact with them (eg PM, threaded comments), and organize books. Making it easier to find posts again later would help as well. ⬇️MORE⬇️ 5y
twohectobooks To be frank as much as I love litsy (and I honestly do despite all my complaints above) I‘m pretty sure it‘s a dead app and I‘ve just been waiting for the announcement that it‘s been abandoned. There are so few active users (I‘m curious about the number) and authors, publishers, etc do not seem to be adopting the app, which is what it probably needs to be worth the developers‘ investment. Until that day comes, I‘ll continue hanging out here 🙁💛📒 5y
Samplergal Great ideas! 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Have you considered following more users? It‘s definitely not a “dead app.” I think @Liberty has approx 24,000 followers. 5y
ljuliel Thanks for your participation, and of course, you are welcome to do it. I originally posted this to anyone wanting to answer, so it‘s for the group. You brought up some valid points. I agree about the swaps. I‘ve done a couple in the past but won‘t do another. There are lots of kinks that need worked out in there. As for your post making the app crash, I‘m not sure what would cause that. I‘m not very tecchy , so I can‘t figure out those things. 5y
ljuliel And last but not least, I don‘t think Litsy is dead just yet. If we all post and respond to other‘s posts, we can keep it going and more active again. 🌟I don‘t think you have to follow thousands of people to keep it active. You couldn‘t keep up and post to that many 🌟. The key is to participate, reply to others, etc. you can meet new people that way, and slowly add friends as you find those with similar book tastes and personalities. 5y
twohectobooks @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I wonder how many of those 24000 are active users though? I follow or am followed by a lot of people who either never posted at all or haven‘t posted in multiple years. I‘m happy with the activity level on my feed, but for the app to feel vibrant and active it needs more users overall. 5y
twohectobooks @ljuliel I‘m glad others are more optimistic than I am! The way you describe is definitely how I use the app and find people to follow. I think the things that keep the user base small are what make this such a pleasant app to use—it‘s just too inconvenient to get on here and be a jerk lol. 5y
twohectobooks @ljuliel also thanks for starting this conversation! I actually just joined the Onward Litsy group on Facebook to see if a similar conversation was going on there. 5y
TheAromaofBooks I liked your thoughts on making it easier to find people to follow who have similar book-reading interests - when I first joined in May of this year, it was really difficult to decide who to follow or not. I love reading, but it would have been easier if there was any type of profile even “my top three genres I love to read“ or something! 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @twohectobooks I‘m not sure, I‘m very active with many members on Litsy. I‘m not sure what all the fuss is about 🤷🏼‍♀️ I cohost buddy reads, photo challenges, a huge pen pal group with over 130 members with @TheBookHippie and we are not seeing what has been mentioned. Look at @MrBook celebrating his 1000000 milestone!!! (Congratulations!) I don‘t understand the negativity... (edited) 5y

1. I love meeting people with similar reading interests.
2. I really love most of it. Although there are some things I may not be interested in, I feel like people want to share what they‘re interested in, and they have as much right to that as I do to my favorite things.
3. Maybe a hashtag for people who are having troubles that they feel like one or more of us can help with by way of chat, e.g., illness, hard times, or just basic malaise.
⬇️

LibrarianRyan I like your idea for 3. 5y
gradcat ⬆️ 4. Daily. 5. I personally do not love Readathons, but I like all of the rest. 6. If there is a way see the posts of your particular friends on a daily basis, that would be great. I can‘t remember everyone, so looking up their handles is difficult. I realize this may be impossible. #KeepLitsyActive #LitsyQuestionnaire 5y
gradcat @LibrarianRyan Thank you. I know that sometimes members go through tough times, and don‘t necessarily want to say anything in an otherwise upbeat post. Plus, sometimes one is capable of helping others, but other times may find one can‘t take on more “stuff,” if you will. This seems like a way to address both issues at once. ♥️ (edited) 5y
See All 15 Comments
ljuliel Definitely a good point on number 3. Maybe we could think of something to use as that hashtag. Only problem is there‘s no pm in here so you‘d be sharing your business for everyone to see unless we did emails. 5y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Agree with number 2 ❤ 5y
gradcat @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Thanks! In my case, I read slower than a lot of these folks, and post my reviews slower still, so I wouldn‘t be posting very often if that was all I did! 😂 5y
gradcat @ljuliel I hope you‘ll forgive me for this...but I‘ve noticed that lots of people would like to restrict contact to only bookish convos. But it seems to me one can‘t really have the kind of conversations you wish to see if they are limited in subject matter 🤷🏽‍♀️ Just a thought, and please forgive me if I sound harsh. ♥️ I just want to be sure I‘m understanding, because I read this comment on several questionnaires. (edited) 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @gradcat very well said! (6th comment) (edited) 5y
gradcat @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thank you! ☺️ ♥️ 5y
Bookwormjillk @gradcat for me I love and often add to non-bookish convos. I‘d just like to be able to do a really targeted search. 5y
ljuliel No offense taken at all. I‘m only going by the majority of posters who‘ve answered the questions. I have no problem at all with folks posting their pets or what they see on their walks or what their town looks like. Only a small number said strictly books and nothing else. Others were a bit more selective in things they don‘t want to see or scroll through. I don‘t mind a balance of things just so books don‘t get lost in the shuffle. 5y
gradcat @Bookwormjillk & @ljuliel Thanks for your clarifications. Sometimes I‘m afraid to speak up about these things, because I certainly don‘t want to offend anyone. But you guys made me feel at ease with my having said anything. I appreciate that. ♥️♥️♥️ 5y
ljuliel @gradcat I hope everyone in here feels comfortable enough to voice their opinions without judgment. We have a varied number of feelings on what content should be. The best way I can see it so that everyone is relatively happy is to try to put a bit more book related posts so we get more conversation in that direction , but also not regulate off topic content. I‘m hoping everyone can meet in the middle . Thank you for your reply. ❤️ 5y
gradcat @ljuliel I think this is a perfect solution! ♥️ 5y

#LitsyQuestionnaire
1. Except books/bookish things? 😁I‘m grateful that this app is ad and (most of the time) drama free, that this app is dedicated to the readers and easy to use, and I enjoy seeing posts from all around the world from the people who can respect different opinions. 2. I don‘t like ‘hate reading‘ and memes ... but I don‘t see problem in that, I just scroll past those posts that I‘m not interested in. 3. When you search for ... 👇

Simona ... specific book, it would be nice to have the option to look at the reviews only. 4. I think that my average is twice a week. 5. Yes I do. I like seeing what others are reading/doing, and what makes them happy. 6. I don‘t have the answer. We are here because we love books, and we use different ways to express and share that passion in our posts. I‘m guilty of clicking ‘like‘ and I rarely leave comment in others posts. I‘m hardcore introvert 👇 5y
Simona ... even on social media, but my ‘likes‘ always means that I saw and I have read your post. 5y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego "Likes" are valid too, I agree. 5y

BarbaraBB And your likes are valued 💕 5y
ljuliel Thanks for posting. Nothing wrong with only clicking like if that‘s all you are comfortable doing. There are others that might be more into the social end of it , of dropping comments on posts etc. I thought that might get some of the close atmosphere back that several have noticed is missing. 5y
Hooked_on_books Ad free—excellent point! 5y
sprainedbrain ❤️ 5y
batsy Yes to 3! Especially since we need to tag books for posts unrelated to books so a lot of it isn't about the book, sometimes. And I love your answer for 6. It's true that posting about books and liking and otherwise being quiet gives a lot of pleasure for introverts ❤️ 5y
Simona @batsy Especially for hyped books, to find reviews can be time consuming ... I work in a extremely extrovert environment, so at home I have to recharge and usually I simply can‘t be talkative 🤷‍♀️ 5y
Simona @Hooked_on_books I hope that it stays that way, but I guess - this is the price for the slower app development. 5y

#keeplitsyactive #litsyquestionnaire @ljuliel

1. Nice people who share my passion for reading, feeling comfortable posting comments on anyone's posts, even if I don't know them (not sure if they like it, but I feel like having read the same book is connection enough for me to comment).
2. (see below; can't find arrow emoji on the desktop version)

ImperfectCJ 2. Non-book posts, and some of the “-athon“ posting gets a little much at times (almost took a break during October because my feed was so full of athons and point counts). Not that I think people shouldn't post these, it just might be nice to have a way to opt out/filter as others have suggested.
3. See 2.
4. At least once a day, usually.
5. All but read-alongs (can't figure them out).
6. Anything to encourage more conversation.
5y
ValerieAndBooks Idk if you know, but if you go to the desktop version— Litsy.com, there‘s the option to choose hashtags you want to mute. I‘ve done it several times 😂 5y
ImperfectCJ @ValerieAndBooks I didn't know about that, thanks! I'm on the desktop site at this very moment...I'll have to play with that feature! 5y

ljuliel Thanks for your responses. I can‘t get the hashtags to stop, but maybe it‘ll work for you. I agree on more book posts. 5y
LibrarianRyan the ⬇ is under the ⭐ section 4th row down 4th from the right on the desk top. And wouldn't better desk top emoji's be awesome. maybe it varies by computer that you are on. 5y

1 the shared passion of books and reading
2 I enjoy most posts!
3 more conversations
4 at least daily, but usually often during the day.
5 I've done them all
6 use "untitled " when posting about anything except books. Keep the book reviews clean!
This is my go to site because the friendly interactions, even when there are differences, for 99 % of the time, everyone is civil and polite.?

Crazeedi I love the feeling of community here. I love being part of the snail mail group #litsylove and getting to know people from all over the world. 5y

ljuliel Great ideas and comments. I agree that we can all do better. 5y
ValerieAndBooks You make a good point about using “Untitled “! I‘m guilty of attaching a title to non-book-related posts but not often. That said, some titles are used over and over here — forget trying to find reviews for books such as 😂👉 5y
gradcat @Crazeedi Leave it to you to give me the rationale behind “Untitled.” I will remember that & try not to use book titles too much without reviews! 😂🤣♥️ 5y
Lynnsoprano I‘d never thought about using Untitled that way. Now I have to look at my old posts and see how often I‘ve abused that. 5y
Lynnsoprano @ValerieAndBooks And all the books with Friday in the title for #Friyayintro ! 5y
Crazeedi @Lynnsoprano @gradcat I saw this suggestion early on here, and realized if I used book titles it would skew the book when people looked at reviews etc. So I've made it a point, if you look at my non book posts, to not use a title. I may have transgressed once or twice but I pay attention because it makes sense 5y
Reggie I have to agree with No.6. One of my favorite books ever is Other People‘s Weddings. Take a look. Lol Honestly does that or should it ruin anyone‘s day? No, But I love that book so much I don‘t want anyone using its title for anything other than how special it was . Hear! Hear! Lol 5y
Crazeedi @Reggie exactly! That's why!! And it's not a reason to dump litsy, but it would be easier to decide if you want to read! 5y
gradcat @Crazeedi It never even occurred to me—so glad you brought it up! Got your email last night—will write back when I get a chance. Hope you have fun on your birthday, Sunday, whatever you decide to do. 😘 5y

#litsyquestionnaire I‘ll have to fill a few comments with this one to give full answers! Great idea thank you to whoever started this, sorry I can‘t work out who to thank!

1. Chatting with bookish people and being part of a community. I don‘t really know anyone who reads as much as me so this gives me a place to be excited about books with people. It‘s become really important to me

2. Things that require me to post stuff - hard from UK when ⏬

Emilymdxn Most users are American, and I don‘t have a lot of money to spend. 3. More irl meet-ups and more activities like the fabulous #newyearwhodis and #bfc to connect with people without needing to spend money or be in the same time zone. 4. At least daily, often more. 5. I love readathons but I have quite a busy schedule so can‘t always join. Swaps aren‘t really for me as international postage and money are issues for me. ⏬ (edited) 5y
Emilymdxn Read alongs I‘m open to but I haven‘t seen many for books I‘m wanting to read right then, I‘m a mood reader and can struggle to match pace exactly with other people so they aren‘t totally me. Questionnaires i like a lot. 6. Id like to see more opportunities to connect and do challenges or activities with people that aren‘t swaps like the ones I mentioned above. I‘m always eager for more ways to get involved that fit my budget! 5y
Balibee146 Great thoughtful responses tagging for you @ljuliel 5y

BarbaraBB Great answers! 5y
ljuliel Thanks for your replies. I understand completely about the reading at your own pace, etc. I don‘t like my reading to feel too restricted with rules to follow either. It‘s supposed to be fun. Hopefully you‘ll find a book that fits your reading tastes that is having a read along. Thanks for the tag @Balibee146 5y
ljuliel @Emilymdxn I know what you mean. It can get expensive if you get too involved with swaps and some of the other extra things in here. Hopefully you‘ll find more things that are a good fit for you. It is a nice place to meet new book friends. 5y
readordierachel I feel the same way about readalongs. I can almost never keep up, even when I want to read the book! It's fun when they're low stakes (ie, read at your own pace and discuss later). 5y

@ljuliel #litsyquestionnaire
1. The best book suggestions, insightful reviews, and genuinely lovely people.
2. I haven‘t been a joiner lately, but I like seeing what others are doing. I wish Litsy would solve the irritating double posting issue.
3. Please, for the love of all that‘s holy, fix the horrible problems since the 13.x iOS update. Litsy is unusable on my phone now. Nearly every inch sends my away from posts. I‘m not updating my ⬇️

ljuliel Thanks for your input. I agree, that screen/ scrolling issue thing was driving me bonkers. They had yet another update recently and it‘s improved a bit. Maybe they‘ll get the kinks worked out soon. I hope 🤞🏼. I just did a read along and it was fun. Very low key, no stress. I plan to do another of them myself. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ljuliel I haven‘t seen any improvement with iOS updates since 13.0. And Litsy hasn‘t done an app update for 8 months. But I‘ll cross my fingers too! 5y
ljuliel @BarbaraTheBibliophage My latest iPad update says it‘s 13.2 , so maybe that was the last one ? I never remember to look for Litsy app updates. It sounds like maybe it‘s time for an overhaul if it‘s been that long. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ljuliel I‘m going to do the 13.2 update tonight and see if it helps! 5y
KT1432 Yessss to this!! I was shocked I didn't see more people complaining about the terrible iOS update, but maybe everyone just stopped posting as much like I did lol. Every scroll takes me to a link or hashtag! 😠 5y
ljuliel Good luck Barbara. I hope it helps you ! 5y
ljuliel @lele1432 Yes it was really frustrating for awhile. Every time you touch the screen, it‘d shoot you off in a different direction. Either sideways or clear back up to the top. Mine is behaving better now than before. It‘s not perfect, but better. 5y
KT1432 @ljuliel mine has calmed down as well since I updated again, but I still have to be careful to avoid anything with a link, whereas before it was just so fluid! It never sent me anywhere I didn't wanna go. Ugh Apple lol. 🙄 5y
ljuliel I agree, but I love my Apple devices. They‘ll have to pry them out of my cold dead hands. 😊 @lele1432 5y
KT1432 @ljuliel mine too, so I can't complain too much lol 😂 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @lele1432 I honestly wonder how much is iOS and how much is Litsy. I get that this app runs on a shoestring, but most of my apps have updated since 13.0 released from Apple. 5y
Laughterhp For some reason my phone is no longer having the issues of super sensitive links.. thankfully! I am on 13.2 iOS now. 5y
Palimpsest I barely can scroll without triggering some hadhtag or link. It‘s maddening. I haven‘t been on Litsy as much because i find it that problematic. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Laughterhp I‘m doing the update for that tonight. Crossing fingers. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Palimpsest Same here. People above are saying it gets better with 13.2. I‘ll try to make a note here if it helps ... 5y
Litsi More user help would help. Like I don‘t know how to ger access to the questionnaire. 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Litsi Hi - glad you asked. If you want to post your own answers to this list of questions, just make a screen grab of my image. Then pick a book to post it under (use the one I did if that‘s easiest). And answer the questions (remember to use the hashtag) in your post and the comments. Hope that helps! 5y

#litsyquestionnaire
1. The book reviews/recommendations, the swaps, the games, reading buddies (i.e., pets), general interactions & awesomeness of everyone
2. I can‘t think of anything. I like it all, regardless of whether I actively participate.
3. 🤷🏼‍♀️
4. Depends. Some days a lot, some days (although rare), nothing. I usually post at least once a day.
5. Yes, I enjoy all of them
👇🏻

wanderinglynn 6. I think what‘s great about Litsy is there‘s something for everyone. But if there‘s something I‘m not particularly interested in, I scroll on. Easy peasy. But one functionality thing I‘d like to see is to be able to sort the TBRs or at least search because it can be a pain, even on the desktop version, to try to dig through someone‘s TBR for a swap or a just because gift. 5y
ljuliel Good point , Lynn. It seems that lots of folks would like the TBR area easier to access and sort through. I‘m glad you mentioned the pet photos. I like seeing them too, since I don‘t have a pet. I can see everyone else‘s. 🐈 🐕 🐰 5y
TorieStorieS I would love an easier TBR search!! And the way that you can compare your own categories like you can on Goodreads! 5y
See All 13 Comments
Litsi My suggestions are 1) increase the posting limit 2) limit the content to books - not weddings, dogs without books, vacations, etc. I don‘t need another general topic social media site. 3) create an icon to especially praise a well crafted photo. It keeps Litsy beautiful and is worthy of special note. 4) Make it easier to find posts that respond to your posts. These are all reasons that I use it less than I want to. Thanks for asking. (edited) 5y
Litsi One more thing: an easy way to block posts, not a person, that is not about books. 5y
wanderinglynn @Litsi I can‘t take credit. It was @ljuliel who created the questionnaire. And as far as I know, there‘s no posting limit. (edited) 5y
Litsi The 451 words limit on reviews 5y
wanderinglynn @Litsi Ah, got it. 👍🏻 I was thinking of limits on posts, not the character limit. 5y
janeycanuck @Litsi you can mute specific hashtags from the web version of Litsy. Maybe that would help cut down on the content you don‘t want to see? 5y
marleed @ljuliel I love Litsy and Littens! My suggestion would be an app session setting. Some days I don‘t have time to scroll down my entire feed. I‘d love an option to filter on ‘Picks‘ only - just for that session. ...Also, I love the newish thing where I can follow books I‘ve tagged as read or stacked. It would be fun if i could add to my timeline ‘Picks‘ for specific genres - but not the blurbs or quotes. 5y
ljuliel Thank you for the answers @Litsi. I appreciate your honesty. So many have mentioned wanting a bigger area to post reviews. That‘s one I have trouble with too. I‘m a bit long winded, so it‘s pretty hard to write an adequate review in the space we have. I hope you‘ll stick around, even though there are areas you‘d like to change. . 5y
ljuliel Thanks for the feedback @marleed. I appreciate it 🙂 5y
