Ken Follett does it again with this book! It‘s great to return to Kingsbridge in this book set in the late 18th and early 19th Century. As always with Ken Follett he creates great characters, both good and bad, and he does an excellent job of making you have to read on to find out what is going to happen next.

#ReadAway2024 @DieAReader @Ghabi4Roses

#SeriesLove2024 @TheSpneView Series up to date.

Andrew65 As you can imagine from the time this was set, amongst the Industrial Revolution and the Napoleonic wars, this isn‘t all hearts and roses. The authorities are clamping down on the ‘workers‘ as they are running scared following the French Revolution and fear the same will happen in England. There are some tragic stories and cases within this book which leave you crestfallen and both upset and angry. 11mo
Andrew65 Ken Follett really does an excellent job bringing this period to life, and showing the impact on everyday lives.

Towards the end of the book it also covers the Battle of Waterloo, and Napoleon‘s last stand. This is well-written, but feels a bit out of place compared to the rest of the book. It is however important for the book in what happens to our characters following the battle.
11mo
Andrew65 I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and despite being over 1000 pages, it passes all too quickly. If anything it makes me want to go back and restart the whole of this series. I do hope he will continue this series.

Put quite simply, five stars and a favourite!

GinaKButler You finished in time! Impressive! Love this series! 11mo
AnnR Wow, that's great you were able to finish it before the due date. Plus, a 5* read! Another series I keep overlooking but mean to try sometime. 11mo
Andrew65 @AnnR That 5 star, made it easier to finish in the time I had. It is an excellent series. 11mo
Andrew65 @GinaKButler Was determined to do so as I knew others were waiting for the book and didn‘t want a gap in my reading. It‘s a wonderful series. 11mo
Andrew65 @TheSpineView Especially love all his historical fiction. 11mo

I‘m going in… I may be some time 😂

Starting off the #ChunksterChallenge2024 with this super Chunkster at 1024 pages. No pressure but the book will be recalled by the library at 11.10pm on 7th January 🤣 But it is part of a great Chunkster Series @Amiable

#JumpStart2024 @LizPixie

This will also be the first of my targeted books for #SeriesLove2024 @TheSpineView

MittenGirlPeach No pressure indeed! 😉 11mo

Andrew65 @Cuilin They are, so hopefully all should be well. 🤞 11mo
Bluebird Jan 7! Good luck!! ? I‘m reading the series this year. I‘d previously only read books 1 and 2–more than 10 years ago. I‘m ½ way through the prequel now and loving it. Pillars of Earth is one of my alltime favorite books! 11mo
Andrew65 @Bluebird I‘m thinking, I need to re-read the others as a lot of years since I read the early ones and enjoying this one so far. Got to page 85 so far and already enjoying it and such an easy reading style. 11mo
Amiable I mean, that's a quick read even for Evelyn Wood! 😃 11mo
Andrew65 @Amiable 😂😂😂 11mo
Bluebird @Andrew65 same for me. Once I finish the prequel, I‘ll decide if I‘ll re-read books 1-2, or jump straight to 3! I‘m more likely to re-read—despite having a massive TBR list. I‘m reading the audiobook, it moves quickly. Agree about Follett‘s writing. 11mo
Andrew65 @Bluebird I love John Lee‘s narration of his audiobooks, although I am physically reading this one. I can almost hear me reading it with his tone. 😂 11mo

Had no time to finish before this evening. I really enjoy the social history side of these books. (There was probably about 50 pages too many about Waterloo for me).

Bluebird I really need to get back to Kingsbridge! I read the first two books >10 years ago and absolutely loved them! I bought the 3rd one several years ago but haven‘t gotten around to reading it. Sigh…so many books I want to read… 11mo
Deblovestoread @Bluebird My family and I just talked about this last night. My dad is reading this one. I looked back and read World Without End in Sept. 2012 😳 How has 11 years gone by without my reading the 3rd book? 11mo
Bluebird @Deblovestoread Ha! So glad to know it‘s not just me! Time passes far too quickly. I was surprised to learn how many years it had been since I read the others. 11mo

Not sure why I decided to start a chunkster when I‘ll probably want to read my Christmas books!! But here we are.

julesG Given your speed you should be done before Christmas Day. 11mo
Ruthiella @julesG My thoughts exactly! 😆 11mo
julesG @Ruthiella You should have seen her and @squirrelbrain fly through Covenant of Water at the Reading Retreat. I'm still in awe at how they manage it. 11mo

Ruthiella Me too. @squirrelbrain manages to read every long list for every book prize. I bow down. I am not worthy. 😆 11mo
TrishB @Ruthiella @julesG 😁😘 I‘m not even reading at the moment! Very stressful footie on telly. Hopefully pick up later. 11mo
squirrelbrain I haven‘t had much chance for reading in December @julesG @Ruthiella - hoping to make up for it over the next few days! 🤞 11mo
squirrelbrain I‘m not reading the ToB longlist though @Ruthiella - in disgust at their shortlist! 11mo
Balibee146 I did the same and am halfway through The Book That Wouldn't Burn... Enjoying it very much at least. 11mo

My book is due in a couple days so I‘m trying to steal every spare moment to read this but it‘s hard due to fall clean up and planting bulbs for spring. I normally finish books at night but lately I‘ve been falling asleep while reading because I‘m so exhausted! By the way, book‘s been interesting so far but different, Probably due to a different era.

Summer is finally here and that means I have time to plunge into the long-awaited World Without End.

I have had this on my shelf for years but needed a nice empty summer to feel like I could get stuck into it.

Need to garden... but a little read beforehand won't hurt. Just for 5 minutes ☺
