This is a fascinating memoir of a couple, Judy and Henry, who married in the 1960s, have a son and daughter and grandchildren. Henry, now retired, in search of relief from back pain, selects a physiatrist who injects steroids into his lower back. What follows is a nightmare of paralysis, blood clots, hypertension, hypotension, severe pain, digestive problems, headaches, depression, neuropathy, years of rehab, and severe loss of independence. ⬇️
Seventeen-year-old Fortuna Jane Belleweather just won in the lotto jackpot - $58,643,129 !! But there are problems…she‘s a minor so she can‘t receive the $, she can‘t give it to her widowed mom, who would use it to ramp up her hoarding habit, and her 18 yo ex will blackmail her to get possession of the $$…how can she proceed when the money is worse than a curse??

HF verse, based on one of the worst floods ever, in Johnstown PA in 1889. There were rumors about the dam needing repairs and the fishing/hunting club members who refused to fix it. So beautifully written, in the voices of those who survived, those who perished, those who sued the responsible parties, and those who wrote about it. I googled it and the photos of the disaster left me speechless 😳

Wow 😯 This is a one-of-a-kind treasure, a novel in verse. Tenth-grader Bobby Lang is known as Junk Boy at school - he lives on the edge of town in a shack with useless junk of all kinds surrounding it; no mom around, and a drunk dad who calls his son Slug. It is heartbreaking but solid in its poetic voice. Everyone we meet has their own physical or emotional junk they carry with them - all that matters is finding a way to build a connection…
Beautiful HF! The story of 5 women, each in their own timeline (1907, 1944, and present day) and how their lives were intertwined at the gorgeous gardens of Highbury Estate.

This is a novel-in-verse about a friendship between a young girl and the Nobel Prize winning poet Gabriela Mistral in mid-20th century LosAngeles. It had potential, but it tried to do too much-too many themes and issues

A romance begins for Gage and Katy, interrupted by Gage‘s short term job assignment far away; but the conflict comes when Katy gets amnesia after a car wreck. Then she discovers she‘s pregnant…Most of it was barely credible, but it made the 2.5 hour drive less annoying 🤷♀️

A girl lost. An unwanted pregnancy, an abortion, and loss of motivation for many parts of her life. Depressing and a slog for me; but indicative of a journey barely started, with more to come…
