Manazuru | Hiromi Kawakami
post image
Pickpick

Manazuru was the last of Hiromi Kawakami's books (that have been translated into English) that I hadn't read -- until Under the Eye of the Big Bird comes out in September. This one was quieter than some of her others. The fantastical parts weren't as colorful as in Dragon Palace or People from my Neighborhood. The pace was on the slow side, but once I got into it, I found it to be a gripping rumination on grief and memory.

Does anyone know if any of Japanese author, Chizuko Ueno's work has been translated into English? I'm guessing no, since I can't find any anywhere. Thought I'd ask the hivemind just in case. https://www.npr.org/2023/09/29/1202578027/as-china-censors-homegrown-feminism-a-... #Japaneseliterature #Japanesebooks #Japanese #Japaneseauthors

AnnCrystal Not sure, did a quick search and found something on Google.

Pricey, perhaps you can find it for less somewhere else??

The Cat Who Saved Books | S?suke Natsukawa

Pickpick

My cat-loving, book-obsessed heart truly enjoyed this book. Part of my #JapaneseAuthors challenge I found this to not only be a quick read but a charming one as well. I mean what's not to love when you have a talking cat who wants to save books? Just saying.

Oh this series! I have enjoyed all three so very much. There is so much heart and emotion between these pages. Yes, I needed kleenex. These stories not only touched my emotions but made me think. If you could go back in time would you? Knowing yoh can't change the past would you still make the journey? 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read for me #japaneseauthors #bookspin @TheAromaofBooks
