4.5 ⭐Once again, this man hits it out of the park. I wish he would write more children‘s books. He has such a creative mind and such a way with words. In this book, our character gets a new teacher. The new teacher is kind of gruff and our main character goes into some pretty crazy stories. But how much is true how much is not? Weird Al can tell a story, whether he‘s rhyming them to polka music or putting them in a book, this man makes words

LibrarianRyan that adult and children want to listen to. And when you read his books, they sound like him. I love that about his writing about this book and his other one. Please Weird Al write more books. 13h

There is a reason this author has a Caldicott. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal. It‘s the illustrations that make the story. A child is playing at home with their parent. And the other becomes the ocean and the story moves from there. Who needs to do housework when you can play pretend. This is a fabulous story that while simple will have a place in the heart of parents who read it to their children.

A beautiful and delightful tribute to art, imagination, creativity and the city of New York. I love to discover dialogue free books, purely visual storytelling, There's such a wealth of possibilities, I feel like there's so much more to explore and experiment with in such a medium that there should be more out there than I've found. Happy to take recommendations!

4 ⭐This book is hard. It‘s about a child that continuously spends a lot of time in the hospital. And how they feel going between the hospital and regular school. How they feel they have to keep things separate or be like other children and try to forget their hospital time. But the story is useful. First off, the note from the author in the beginning about hospital kids being a little different and needing the public to understand that things

LibrarianRyan are different for them is lovely and tearjerking. In the story of the character finds that it‘s OK to have different experiences. It also teaches others that you should be aware of those experiences and not afraid but willing to try new things. 1mo

It‘s a great reminder that real superpowers, like love and care, come from the people closest to us.

speaks to the yearning for companionship and the courage to follow one‘s heart. Dan Santat‘s lush and dreamlike illustrations perfectly complement the whimsical yet deeply emotional story, making it a visual and narrative delight.
