Jewell always manages to hook me in. While the ending made this one a soft pick for me, the pacing was great. I appreciated that Alix's ignoring of major red flags felt like a natural progression here - she's just too far into the story to back down now. I like my fiction tied with a bow, so some of the ambiguity at the end annoyed me (plus one major plot point wasn't how I would have gone so), but overall I couldn't stop turning pages.

vlwelser Everyone on my work team (4 people) shared a 21 day library loan for this. Such a page turner. 5d

julieclair Glad you enjoyed it! Mostly. 😉 5d
TheAromaofBooks @vlwelser - Oh what a fun idea, to all read the same book. Gives you something to talk about at work 😂 She's a great author for that. I feel like she creates situations for her characters that really leave you wondering what you would do if you were in that position - bad choices are made, but they feel like reasonable bad choices. 5d
vlwelser All of the bad choices. Who knew there could be SO many. I swear my intern spent that entire book gasping and swearing at it in Spanish. We often pass a book around. This was the first time it was a library book. I highly recommend it if you end up with a group of readers you spend a lot of time with. 5d

I really enjoyed this story and loved the characters. I told my daughter, “When your Dad and I can't live independently anymore, can you find me a luxury senior's home where the residents solve mysteries and drink lots of wine?“

#gottacatchemall @PuddleJumper (prompt 47: Polteageist, Cosy mystery)

kwmg40 I'm using this for prompt 25 (An author “everyone“ has read except you) of #52bookclub because almost everyone I know has recommended this book to me.

One recommendation was from my daughter's friend. I asked, “Why would young people be interested in a series featuring senior citizens?“ His reply; “I like to think that, when I'm that old, my life would be just as interesting as those of the characters,“ which I thought was lovely!

A low pick for me. The story was so-so but I liked the 18th-century London setting of this historical mystery and its references to real-life characters.

I'm using this for prompt 2 (Bibliosmia: A smelly book) of #52bookclub24. My daughter, who knows I love Penguin green mysteries, found this old musty copy. I'm sure it smells just like the London bookshop where she got it!

#gottacatchemall @PuddleJumper (prompt 56. Sirfetch'd: Historical)

Librarybelle Good choice for the prompt! 6d
Hooked_on_books This is such an unusual prompt. I like what you picked for it! 6d

Your progress graphic has been added to the GDrive. There is a poster version and a Litsy one. I am not sure if these will be the final form but I wanted to get them done in case people wanted to share them or have a visual guide to what they‘ve caught.
I haven‘t figured out how to include Evolved Pokémon yet so that is why things might change later on.

Another good installment in the October Daye series, but I did find one thing disappointing. I was excited that this book was set in Toronto (close to where I live) but almost all the action happened in the hidden faerie realm. The only Toronto references were the overused Tim Hortons jokes. We really do have more than Tim Hortons here in Canada! 😄

Librarybelle I‘ve heard of Tim Horton‘s but did not realize it‘s a Canadian company 1w

Hooked_on_books But Timbits are so good! Especially the chocolate ones. Yum! 1w
kwmg40 @Librarybelle They're not wholly Canadian these days, as there is some foreign ownership, but Tim's was founded in the 1960's by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton, and there's pretty much a Tim's in every Canadian city and town, no matter how small. 1w
Librarybelle Good to know! I think I‘ve seen one near Erie, Pennsylvania but have not visited. 1w
kwmg40 @Hooked_on_books My family had to try the Timbiebs (a collaboration with Justin Bieber) when they came out, but my favourites remain the chocolate glazed and old fashioned. 1w
TheAromaofBooks Yes, we have Tim Horton's here in Ohio... TimBits are the best!! 7d
kwmg40 @TheAromaofBooks Nice to see appreciation of Tim's elsewhere in the world! My daughter lives in London where a Tim's opened up recently. She said there were long lineups, which seemed weird to us, as Tim's is just the local no-frills coffee shop to us Canadians. 😄 7d

Strange alliances definitely characterizes a lot of what happens in this book, as each brother is joined (mostly begrudgingly) by a host of unexpected characters. The story does go a bit off the rails, but I think it's meant to because it is modeled after epics, which also tend to go off on random character-adding tangents. The watercolor art style is such a treat, and I look forward to the next book. #Comic #Chinese

Kenyazero Used for #OwlHouseReadathon Lily "complicated sibling relationship" and for #GottaCatchEmAll Corvisquire "favorite genre" and "second book in a series.” @PuddleJumper 2w

Kenyazero @Clare-Dragonfly The art is a huge treat in this one, for sure! It‘s worth reading for that alone! (The story is fun too, of course) 2w

Another enjoyable entry in this series. I was delighted to meet Ross and Violet and get to know Maud and Hawthorn more in this volume. I enjoyed the first book a bit more, because the pacing was better, but I felt the character connections just as strongly and laughed out loud just as often with this. Super excited for the next book! #LGBTQIA #Fantasy

Kenyazero Used for #GottaCatchEmAll Sinistea "ghost or spirit" and "set somewhere you don't live" @PuddleJumper as well as #LGBTQ2024 "shelf read" and #OwlHouseReadathon for multiple Eda prompts: chronic condition, keeping protective secrets, a wanted character, and a character confident about their looks. 2w

The memoirs of a journalist who fled Eritrea after speaking out against the government, this is one of my favourite books of 2024 so far. It's an exciting and inspiring story.

Sadly, the author died of COVID in 2021, but he did manage to reunite with his family in Canada. I highly recommend the audiobook narrated by his son.
