One day the author took a DNA test and found out that her father was not her biological father. Her parents never told her and now they were no longer living. She set out to find her biological father and understand her history better. This was her story about that journey. I can‘t imagine what that must have been like for her.

📕 Genealogy of a Murder by Lisa Belkin

📕 📕 This was a fascinating look into how genealogy, nature vs nuture, and such discussions play into how the paths of three families collide one night when a police officer is murdered. Non-fiction but read like a novel.

I‘m on the fence between a pick and so-so. I‘ve read enough of Jacobs to know what to expect. This was entertaining enough, though maybe not his best. But not bad either.

The author, Barbara Rae-Venter, was the first to uncover the identity of the Golden State Killer while working with Paul Holes. Originally deciding to go unnamed, Rae-Venter was hesitant to reveal her identity in association with law enforcement, as she is primarily a genetic genealogist. This book explores several other cold cases she‘s solved but continues to circle back to the Golden State Killer case. For fans of Ill Be Gone in the Dark.

I wouldn‘t call them advanced techniques, but I got one or two ideas from it.

This genealogy covers a lot of characters throughout three generations of 3 families that intertwine. Some parts I loved, some parts needed more editing and were too verbose. In the end, I enjoyed the twisting this story takes, the ideas of parole and prison, and interesting stories of “normal” people in the 1900s.

This was a very researched book into the lives of his ancestors and what it brought up, such as slavery. It's a heavy read, which is fine and it took me two months to read.
