June is Pride Month, so we‘ll be chatting about LGBTQIA+ books and want to know your favorites! Leave a comment with your recs and we may give you a shoutout on the episode! #eclecticreaders #eclecticquestion

ItsAnotherJen All of Cassandra Clare books are great! 5y
kaysworld1 From drag queens and discos, to black holes and monsters, these stories and poems wrestle with love and loneliness and the fight to be seen. By turns serious and fantastical, hilarious and confrontational, We Were Always Here addresses the fears, mysteries, wonders and variety of experience that binds our community together. 5y
kaysworld1 This one was an heart breaking read 5y

While we‘re all stuck inside due to the pandemic, what book (or books) would you recommend your fellow readers pick up? Leave a comment, and we may give you a shoutout on the next podcast episode! #EclecticQuestion #EclecticReaders

rjsthumbelina Elves in a school setting, learning how to do various forms of magic, main character trying to figure out why she is so different (she was raised by humans), great mystery running through the book, brilliant magical creatures, and lots of different humanoid species (elves, the humans, ogres, goblins, trolls, etc). Like Harry Potter levels of good! 5y

I‘ve been recommending The Martian by Andy Weir as the ultimate social distancing read. Watney is as isolated as is humanly possible, but the book shows how strong a human can be in such awful circumstances and the importance of communication and connection, even remotely.

March: Book One | John Lewis
post image

We‘re reading the March trilogy by John Lewis and it got us talking in our real-life book club about what we remember learning of the civil rights movement in school. What about you? Was it glossed over? Did you learn a lot? What part of the U.S. were you living in at the time? And international listeners: what do you know about the movement? #EclecticQuestion

Butterfinger I think it was mostly independent study. I don't remember, but I do teach it in my 5th grade curriculum. 5y
EclecticReaders @Butterfinger That‘s cool! What topics do you cover with your 5th graders? 5y
Butterfinger The Greensboro Sit-in, the Jim crow laws, freedom marches, Brown vs. Board of Topeka, 5y
megnews I learned about MLK and school desegregation. Other than that I think it was glossed over. I remember hearing the term race riot which now that I know what actually happened seems a very deceptive term. 5y
MissAimz_55 Rosa parks, the sit ins, peaceful protests, mlk 5y

We‘re a week into the new year, and we want to know: do you have any bookish resolutions for 2020? We‘re going to be giving each other bookish resolutions on the next podcast episode and we‘d love to hear about yours! If you leave a comment, we might even give you a shoutout and read it during the next episode 🙂 #EclecticQuestion

Andrew65 These are my many reading resolutions, click on the link to see my post. Andrew65's post on Litsy https://litsy.com/p/V0xheExtSlpS 5y
EclecticReaders @Andrew65 Woah, you‘ve got some serious reading ahead of you! 250 books is amazing!! 5y
Andrew65 @EclecticReaders Reading is my passion. Best ever year last year - 282 books Read and 115,353 pages. http://www.librarything.com/topic/301430 (edited) 5y

EclecticReaders @Andrew65 Impressive!! 👏🏻 🎉 5y
Andrew65 @EclecticReaders Thanks 😊 5y
Amandajoy I felt last year was a little lackluster reading-wise (though there were a few standouts). This year I‘m hoping to read more books that I‘m excited about. I also want to try DNFing more books if I‘m not feeling them. 5y
BookNAround I‘m trying to read my way through the random stacks of books I‘ve made around the house. That will control the chaos, lessen the clutter, and move books off my own personal tbr mountain range. 5y
EclecticReaders @Amandajoy That‘s a great one! The books you read you should be enjoying, or you should give yourself permission to DNF! 5y
EclecticReaders @BookNAround Definitely a good one for so many reasons! 5y
annahenke Mine is to share them! I‘ve gotten lax about posting my reviews. I want to post on litsy, Insta, and FB. 5y
Jess_Franzino To listen to audiobooks on the regular. I realized that I enjoy listening to classics on Audible, so it‘s a great way to “read” the books I know the story of, but have never actually read. Plus, it‘s a great way for me to reach my Goodreads goal of 120 books, (if not more), as I can get books in while doing chores and running errands 😃 5y
EclecticReaders @annahenke Yay! Sharing is caring! 5y
EclecticReaders @Jess_Franzino Yes! Audiobooks are a game changer! 5y
Simona I am from Slovenia and influenced, mainly, by English speaking writers. The vast majority of books I've read are in English, and I want to change that in this year - to read more Slovene writers and to read more in Slovene language. 5y
EclecticReaders @Simona That is such a great resolution! Hope you find a lot of amazing books! 5y
IMASLOWREADER read every night before bed for at least 30 minutes 5y
EclecticReaders @MizDoniaBuding That‘s an awesome way to get in some reading time! 5y

jen_the_scribe Accessibility. I love that everyone still has access to books no matter what financial situation they're in and that kids still have a place to go to nurture their love of reading. 5y
sprainedbrain I live in a tiny town that has an even tinier library. It‘s open 12 hours total during week, all during my work hours and not at all on the weekend, has an outdated catalog with no ebooks or audiobooks, and doesn‘t participate in my state‘s library share program. I‘m so lucky to be able to pay out-of-state fees at 2 large libraries where I can borrow digital media. Libraries give people like me options. (edited) 5y
EclecticReaders @jen_the_scribe Yes!! 📚❤️ 5y
EclecticReaders @sprainedbrain Oh wow! Glad you‘ve found a way to have better access! 5y

Have you all been following this library news and the restrictions Macmillan and other publishers are wanting to put on their ebooks for libraries? What do you think? Do having ebooks available at the library make you less likely to buy ebooks? Let us know your thoughts and we may share them on our next podcast episode. #EclecticQuestion Article links in comments ⬇️

rjsthumbelina I borrow library ebook copies of things that I am not sure I will like. Not having this option would probably mean I would just skip the title altogether! I have found a few of my favorite authors this way - it would be a shame if they stop providing the option. It seems a little on the greedy side 5y
Karisa Borrowing books is more economical but that is true for ebooks, audiobooks, and print. If it's a book that I really love and want to revisit/annotate, I'll buy it regardless of the media. 5y
Soubhiville I rarely borrow ebooks, but I borrow audiobooks constantly. I think limiting library borrowing or charging libraries more for ebook use is ludicrous though. 5y
