pickContinuing reading the GoT books in the weird German edition. This is book 8, so I completed volume 4 of the English original. I preferred volume 7, even though I can't really point out why. It didn't feel as tense to me, even though some tough things were happening.

It's been three years since my last volume, but I was back in the story with no trouble at all. And I enjoyed it once again. There is something to these books that draws you in, right? I loved Brienne, I think hers were my favorite chapters. And to avoid waiting another three years, I started vol 8 already.

panSo, better than the other two but still not good. There's a serious lack of foreshadowing in these books btw.
panFor most of this book there actually was a goal, which is an improvement over the last one. But it's not very satisfying, since we never see the result of it being accomplished. I also find it very strange that these books are about this epic conflict, told through the eyes of army officials (more or less) but we never gain any insight into the strategic importance of certain places or the overall strategy or anything army related really.
