This book could be used in a classroom for social-emotional learning. There are various themes of friendship, empathy, courage, and freedom.
Published in 2000, speculative fiction. What if the dolls on your shelf were alive and they had their own secret world when you weren‘t looking? This book brings you into an old dollhouse that gains a new doll family and a mystery must be solved.

In 2024, Tildy discovers a secret room in the library she works at containing 2 elaborate, mysterious doll houses. In 1914, a young woman named Cora arrives in Paris intent on forging a new life.
What fun! I loved the characters, especially Cora, & the mystery of the doll houses was fascinating. Cora‘s story got a little Forrest Gump through history, but I really loved it, a tale of the importance of highlighting women‘s stories. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

A pure joy. Early 20th century Toy Story. Raggedy family of cheerful dolls versus a new, boring, and haughty family of dolls. The haughty ones learn to love the shabby ones right before the Princess rescues them from being burned.
I didn't know Burnett moved to Tennessee as a child.
#ChildrensClassicRead @TheBookHippie I am so grateful for this list.

Going back to the days of security and no worries. Curled up and listening to the rain. Frances Hodgson Burnett was always one I usually had in my hands when I needed comfort. #ChildrensClassicRead @TheBookHippie

This was a sweet read. I loved the dolls and their positivity despite hard times. Hip! Hip! Hooray for the Fairies 🧚♀️
I was pleasantly surprised by 2 colored illustrations towards the end of the book!

#Read2025
Finished last Sunday for #ChildrensClassicRead2025 & one of my #Roll100 May picks (#70: Any Children‘s Book). Written in 1906, is a sweet story about a unique group of dolls & their dollhouse. While I didn‘t love it, I liked it well enough for it to be a pick.

I love finding these wacky foreign covers! I guess that's supposed to be Queen Crosspatch? Who's so obviously a sexy minx! 😂
This was cute but a little sappy for my tastes. Burnett was better at writing for older children, I think. I did wonder if this inspired Rumer Godden's wonderful doll stories.

#Naturalitsy #HyggeHourReadathon
Spending my #HyggeHour reading the tagged book for #ChildrensClassicRead2025 on my phone from the Internet Archive. My reading snack is a decadent brownie purchased from the craft fair I stopped by this weekend along with some coconut tea..
My mood is relieved that while I do need to get some work done tomorrow, I don‘t have to go to or be at work & I can sleep in a bit.
