Some of us write books inspired by one amazing woman -- Karen Karbo's latest was inspired by 29! Read her #womenshistoryreads interview for Karen's thoughts on the importance of historical context, reading recommendations, and a famous banana skirt that's only a sliver of the story. #difficultwomen greermacallister.com/blog

I feel like I shouldn't say I didn't love this, because everyone else seems to think this is an incredibly empowering collection of short stories. I...didn't. In fact, I found it, on the whole, to be a really bleak representation and view of what it means to be a woman. Roxane Gay has a brilliant talent for words, don't get me wrong; I just...I don't know. #difficultwomen #roxanegay

Alfoster Isn‘t that what‘s so great about this community though? I‘m not a short story person at all. I feel like I don‘t “get” them! And yet I taught high school for years! So we all have different likes but respect all. I am always looking for new ideas and will try anything you peeps recommend but not worry if it‘s not my cup of tea!😍😍 7y
actualdisneyprincess @Alfoster I feel like I...missed something vital, since I didn't see the same tone everyone else seemed to. I usually like short stories ("The Things They Carried" is one of my favorite books of all time), but something about this just really fell flat for me. :/ 7y
actualdisneyprincess @Alfoster (but Littens are the best of people, so I hope y'all still like me despite my take on this!!! 😂) 7y

Didn't quite finish it before I left for work, but it'll definitely be finished by the time I leave work for home! Still enjoying it, mostly. I just wish that - even though I'm sure it's to make a point - these women weren't all so defined by the men in their lives. #difficultwomen #roxanegay

On the fifth story; I'm enjoying this so far, because Roxane Gay is obviously a talented writer, but I can't lie - I'm hoping to see at least one story have a sense of hope and be a little bit lighter. #difficultwomen #roxanegay

I figured the likelihood of finishing this before work was pretty high; I'm hoping to finish it, and take "The Nightingale" with me to read there. #difficultwomen #roxanegay

Why read one book at a time when I can start MULTIPLE? ;) After hearing great things about Roxane Gay here on Litsy, it seemed necessary to pick this up when I spotted it at work! #difficultwomen #roxanegay

I've been working on this book for a little while, not because it's not amazing, but because the stories are raw and weird and deep and inspiring all rolled into one. #books #Readathon #30daysofreadathon #booksandflowers

monalyisha This took me longer than normal to read, too. It wasn‘t easy reading! 7y

#FallIntoBooks #day17 #DifficultWomen Australia's very own Phryne Fisher is a fictional difficult woman. For her time period she was blazing trails for women, empowering every female she met,was a great PI,being a "lady detective" meant being sneered at by men until she outdid them, she wasn't ashamed of her sexuality in an era where marriage & virginity were the norm & she was a crack shot, flew planes & drove fast cars. #phryneappreciationclub

Laura317 I'm just getting started on this very book. So far, I love it. 7y
