BooksandCoffee4Me Hi! Being new, I‘m curious- what is the card swap? 3d
Chrissyreadit @BooksandCoffee4Me Welcome to Litsy! Are you following @LitsyEvents ? @TheBookHippie coordinates card swaps for the seasons- and often people include a poem, stickers sometimes bookmarks- it‘s a fun way to connect with each other. Keep an eye out for the next one. 3d
Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie I could have sworn it did tbh and do not know why it‘s not on my shelf- but I could have sworn I opened it- then thought maybe i was wrong…. I will let you know if/when I figure out the mystery! 3d

Boris and Bella | Gris Grimly, Carolyn Crimi

Pickpick

Anybody else read children‘s books when needing a pallet cleanser. I picked up a couple children‘s books last year as a way to catch up on my reading goal, but I realize that it help with my reading slumps as well. It‘s also been a challenge as I look specifically for books with a Gothic theme and some of the ones I found have been so fun. Boris and Bella was definitely my favorite out of the three, but they were all good.

PatriciaU If you like spooky, try Lora Senf‘s The Clackity and others. So good! Also, Katherine Ardens Small Spaces books are great! 1w
MariaW I went through the whole Bunnicula series in a rather stressful period last year. 1w

Into the Uncut Grass | Trevor Noah

Pickpick

My mom bought this for my daughter when she was visiting. The 9 year old at the end said, “is that all?” Although she is a child that likes to ignore me & her responsibilities like making her bed (similar to the book). I love Trevor Noah & the drawings were beautiful.

Absolutely gorgeous picture about colour and nature, wouldn't expect anything less from Jillian Tamaki. I love how she draws movement.

The House Without Windows | Barbara Newhall Follett
post image

Listening to 9 yo Barbara Newhall Follett‘s House Without Windows & Patti‘s audiobook while waiting for my book mail of The Story She Left Behind. Patti Callahan Henry once again swept me down a Rabbit Hole of research!
BNF @ 4 yo learned to read & type. At 9 yo created her own land & language. Reading Barbara Newhall Follett‘s Letters, The Lost Words, & about Beatrix Potter & HER secret language, and THEIR love of nature

kspenmoll I want to read this! 1w
tpixie @kspenmoll after reading a little more, I learned she wrote the book at nine, but then there was a house fire and it was destroyed, so it was rewritten at 12 and then published. And unfortunately, I pre-ordered Patti Callahan Henry‘s book & I won‘t receive it until one week after it‘s published! Sometimes I guess there‘s a disadvantage to the reader on pre-ordering! I guess I‘ll keep reading her Barbara Newhall Follett‘s letters until then! (edited) 1w

The Water Horse | Dick King-Smith
post image

At my school, the staff, children, and families read The Water Horse. For the past 20 years, we have also celebrated the arts and spring with Blooming Arts Day, which is always the day before our spring break. We paint, local bands perform. Appalachian storytellers come. It is truly a magical day that I look forward to each year. We also celebrate the children's writing.

Too much for one post. Please continue reading.

Butterfinger This year, we are combining the Water Horse, set in Scotland, with our last event. We have a wonderful show planned with bagpipes and singing. I have been asked to emcee. Can you help me out by providing me with some phrases that I can use? Or do you think it is mocking the culture if I even try? I love the words bairn, wee, laird, ken. Words I have learned from reading Thoene and the Outlander series. 2w
Susanita I love the word “dreich” for dull, gloomy, dreary weather. 2w
Butterfinger @Susanita thank you. That is a cool word. 2w

Read these to Jace just in time for #foodandlit and St. Patrick‘s Day. The tagged book was really funny, and the one about St. Patrick himself was very informative for a children‘s book. Thanks for the recommendations @TheBookHippie ! 🤗
