#WalkLikeAnEgyptian

In 1930 a group of 5 young archaeologists set out to excavate the site of Tell el Amarna, taking the author of this memoir with them as field secretary. Mary Chubb describes her time there with wonder, living in a house “where Nefertiti must once have walked and talked”.

Centique Ok I need this book now! I did a search earlier this year for memoirs of archaeologists and didn‘t find this, so just saying @LeahBergen you‘re #betterthanGoogle 😍🙌🙌 5y
rubyslippersreads @Centique I need it too. 😊 5y
Centique @rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen ..aaaaand I‘ve ordered it. 😂😂 5y
LeahBergen @Melissa_J It was a gift from a childhood friend (many moons ago! 😆) 5y
LeahBergen @Centique 😆😆 I love that hashtag! I have another (modern) archaeologist memoir sitting unread on my shelf. 5y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads I thought you might already own it. 😆 5y
Centique @LeahBergen perfect! I‘m sure my dad will enjoy these as well as me 😊 5y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen No, but I just bought a reasonably-priced hardcover on eBay. 😂 #blameitonleahbergen 5y
LeahBergen @Centique I hope so! ❤️❤️ 5y
LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads 😆😆 Well, now I‘ll have to wait and see your hardcover, just in case I need to upgrade this paperback! 5y
batsy I need this book! And I love the picture 😍 5y
mabell Sounds terrific! 5y
Cinfhen I‘m intrigued !! Sign me up 🧡 5y
Cinfhen And that other book sounds fascinating too!!! My TBR is going to bankrupt me!,,,, 5y
Cinfhen @TracyReadsBooks is an archeologist @Centique and her specialty is the Middle East 🙌🏻she might have good recommendations too!!!! Hi Tracy 👋👋Are you here yet??? 5y
BarbaraBB The same goes for @TheBookStacker (being an archeologist). Sorry Taylor for pulling you in today everywhere 😉😘 5y
LeahBergen @batsy Why, thank you! 😄 5y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen @BarbaraBB You two are really “outing” our Litsy archaeologists today, aren‘t you? 😆👏🏻👏🏻 5y
Cinfhen Hahaha 5y
TheBookStacker Hah yes I am an archaeologist, my main focus was Roman and early prehuman but now I‘ve recently gotten a job in archaeology for American Indians. My favorite book I‘ve recently read is 5y
LeahBergen @TheBookStacker How cool! And this book sounds like something I need (I minored in Physical Anthropology in university 😄). 5y
TracyReadsBooks @Cinfhen Yes, I‘m here! We have a week of hosting local elementary & middle school students for a day of archaeology & then our excavation gets under way next week. Archaeology books—Amelia Peabody of course, Michener‘s The Source which was what everyone read in the 80s/90s before coming, Agatha Christie‘s stand alones set in the Middle East, Lives in Ruins which is a more recent NF look at the lives of archaeologist (& an interesting read). 5y
Cinfhen Welcome @TracyReadsBooks !!!! It must be SO HOT!!!! How long are u here for?? I read and loved Michener‘s The Source!! Almost 900 pages!!!!!!! The other book sounds fascinating 5y

Woohoo 🎉A new month means 5 new Hoopla requests- here‘s request #1
I really admire Carole Radziwill ~ she‘s feisty and real 🙌🏻It took a bit to get used to her voice but now about halfway through I feel like Carole & I are coffee buds. She‘s really unloading 💔

AlaMich Am I the only one scheming to use my spouse‘s library card to get a second Hoopla account=more borrows? No? Just me then...😉 6y
Coleen I‘m allowed 20/month on my Hoopla. Don‘t hate me! (edited) 6y
Cinfhen What??? @Coleen that‘s 4 x more than me 😫😫no hate, but super jelly 6y

Cinfhen That‘s a VERY good idea @AlaMich I‘ll be working on that this summer ~ brilliant 6y
8little_paws We're allowed 10 6y
Suet624 You only are allowed 5? That‘s strange. 6y
AlaMich @Suet624 We only get 6. I think they lowered it, actually, but I‘m not sure. It‘s based on what your particular library agrees to pay for. (edited) 6y
ErikasMindfulShelf We‘re allowed 7 which is usually enough for me. I have been thinking in the same lines as @AlaMich We have 3 other library cards in the family. 😃 6y
Cinfhen I used to get 8 requests but starting Jan 2019 they lowered it to only 5 @irre @AlaMich @Suet624 @8little_paws 6y
eri.reads We used to get 8 and now down to 2 😑 6y
8little_paws @eri.reads two!? That's too few. 6y
eri.reads @8little_paws IKR! It broke my heart, but I've been rallying other book lovers from my local library to bombard them with emails, etc. about why it's not enough. I hope it works lol. 🤞 6y
8little_paws @eri.reads I get keeping costs down, but 2 makes it nearly pointless. Maybe split the difference with 4? 6y
Suet624 @AlaMich @Cinfhen The joke is on me. I just checked. I can only have 3 at a time and only 5 holds. 6y
Centique We don‘t have Hoopla but we have Libby. Is it similar? I can get ebooks through Libby, must try an audiobook and see what that‘s like through the Libby app - be nice to get one for free! 6y
AlaMich @Centique They are very similar. Libby is more directly linked to your library in that it‘s more of a delivery system for the ebooks your library already “owns.” Hoopla is a self-contained entity with its own collection of audiobooks, ebooks, movies and tv. The nice thing about Hoopla is that there are no limits on how many people can borrow a particular title st once, as there are with regular library ebooks. (edited) 6y
Centique @AlaMich thanks for explaining 😘 6y
Cinfhen I would absolutely try an audio @Centique it gives you the freedom to do other things while still feeling like you‘re spending time with a book. I find for me ONLY NF works, especially if it‘s read by the author. My favorite audios so far have been Born A Crime, Not My Father‘s Son Trauma Cleaner and 6y
Cinfhen That really sucks @eri.reads and 3 isn‘t much better @Suet624 😡 6y
Centique @Cinfhen I‘ve done a few on Audible like Born A Crime which was awesome. 😍Yeah I think I can do memoirs or maybe simpler fiction but I struggle with anything that needs me to concentrate. I get distracted too easily! I‘ve been listening to SPQR but I keep missing important bits and rewinding 😂😂 6y
TurtleLibrarian My best advice is if you want your library to have more Hoopla borrows per month get everyone you know to use it... a lot. Hoopla is amazing, but it is one of the most expensive eContent services out there too (mostly because of the simultaneous loans). Which is why so many libraries have Overdrive (they're the company, Libby is the name of their App) and not as many have Hoopla. (If you're in MA get a BPL eCard and you can get 10 loans). 6y
Cinfhen Thanks for all the info @TurtleLibrarian 💚I wonder if PA has an ebook library card... do you know @Librarybelle 6y
Librarybelle @Cinfhen Technically, PA does not have a statewide card. However, through the generosity of the Free Library of Philadelphia and various state grants/moneys, PA residents can apply for a Free Library card to use their eresources. My library system uses cloudLibrary, so we promote Free Library to our patrons who use Kindles (cloudLibrary can only support Kindle Fires, due to an Amazon/Overdrive agreement). @TurtleLibrarian that‘s cool about BPL! 6y
TurtleLibrarian It is awesome @librarybelle And, you're welcome @Cinfhen And the thing from Free Library of Philadelphia sounds a little like the BPL thing. 6y
Cinfhen I‘ll look into the Free Library card @Librarybelle thanks so much 💓#LibrariansRock #BetterThanGoogle 😘 @TurtleLibrarian 6y
Librarybelle Thanks, @Cinfhen ! 😘 6y
Crazeedi @Cinfhen I registered and got a free library of philly card. It's great source my little library doesnt have as many ebooks. also my daughter paid $50 and got a Brooklyn library card and she says tons of ebooks and audiobooks. Thinking of joining it, @Librarybelle I've visited a couple libraries in PA in other parts of state and got library cards. But they need renewed and now I dont know if they will renew for me over the phone 5y
Librarybelle @Crazeedi Some libraries will, and some libraries will not allow you to renew your card by phone. My library system does not, for example, due to security reasons. But, you can submit a request to renew your library card through our website. Not all libraries do that either. Free Library will allow you to renew online - I‘ve done that myself! 5y
Crazeedi @Librarybelle I have renewed with Free Library easily. I'm going to call the other two and see if they will over phone or online. Or I guess I lose access which makes me very sad. The one has the audiobooks by Camilleri that I wanted to listen to again🤨 5y
