OutsmartYourShelf
The Curator | M. W. Craven

Pickpick

It's Christmas & Washington Poe has been dragged to a baby shower for boss DI Flynn by colleague Tilly, so he is eternally grateful when they get a call about a case. A serial killer is amputating their victims' fingers (one when alive & one from their dead body) & leaving the fingers displayed in public places in Cumbria, including a church font & a butcher's shop. (Continued)

OutsmartYourShelf Alongside the fingers, the cryptic message #BSC6 is left at each scene - not even computer & mathematic whiz Tilly can figure out what this means. A disgraced FBI agent gets in touch & tells him she believes that Poe is dealing with a killer-for-hire called The Curator. Highly organised & always at least two steps ahead, it's going to take all Poe's experience & maverick way of working to catch them. 1y
OutsmartYourShelf Third book in the series & no sign of flagging. Poe's friendship with Tilly is still going strong & there are some lovely humorous moments between the two of them again. The great characters in these books are fast making it one of my favourite crime series. The plot itself was excellently done in the main (although when the FBI agent first contacts Poe there's no mention of him checking out her credentials before they proceed to spill details 1y
OutsmartYourShelf about their respective cases. Just seems a bit odd for police officers) even though some of it was very convenient (the aforementioned FBI call for one). I was smugly thinking I'd worked it all out, when that ending just came out of nowhere. Still, I flew through it so full marks for ingenuity, pace, & that ending. 5🌟

TWs: pregnancy, violence, death, injury/disfigurement detail.
