Temple Grandin | Ruby Cardona

This book does a great job with its illustrations. It provides an easy journey for children to learn about Temple‘s life. The way that the text is spread out makes it easy for children to read. This would be great for any grade level as a read aloud. This would be a great book to do a flip chart activity with.

There are days (like yesterday) when I have autism imposter syndrome: I hear of the challenges other neurodivergent people face, feel that as significantly more difficult than my own experience and tell myself I should just "suck it up and get on with it".
Then there's today, when I'm on the edge of a meltdown because I dropped a small amount of grated carrot on the kitchen floor and the feel of it under my feet is making me freak out! ? ⬇️

Bookwomble Then the new mindfulness calming app I thought I'd try has TOO MANY OPTIONS so I'm heading for another meltdown and I've rage uninstalled it! Thank goodness for the Plum Village meditation app! Equilibrium restored and, for now at least, some acceptance of my autistic self 🧘🏻‍♂️♾️🩵😅 1mo

“I- and people like me- can‘t splinter ourselves… I need for all of me- all these parts of me- to be addressed. I can‘t leave my leg out in the rain while the rest of my body comes indoors for shelter. Because if I do I am still going to be wet and miserable, even if much of my body is dry. That won‘t work for me.”

How beautiful is this?! He stores and edits sentences in his head until he is ready to write them 💙

Mehso-so

I feel a bit bad not liking this book considering it was written by a 13 year old but it was really repetitive. My main issue with it was I didn‘t like the way it was always ‘us with autism‘ - sort of speaking for everyone with autism instead of speaking just for himself and his own experience 😬 I‘m sure it‘s very insightful for some though ♥️ #nonfiction2024 (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time)

IndoorDame I totally hear you! I‘m reading a book about asexuality right now, and one of my favorite things so far is that the author devoted a whole chapter early on to making sure the readers understand that she‘s not speaking for all asexuals, who exactly the book is talking about within that context, that language is constantly evolving, and that definition and categorization are inherently flawed but still useful… 5mo
youneverarrived @IndoorDame ah I love that! It makes a difference when authors recognise and acknowledge those things 5mo
rwmg I'm not sure that's an insight with the reach of many 13 year olds. But then again while reading it I did wonder how much of the language and way of expressing himself came from Naoki Higashida himself and how much came from David Mitchell. 5mo
