The Trees: A Novel | Percival Everett
post image

I‘m loving the season to include the holiday-related reads…but I‘m really looking forward to the new year and the return to reading “more serious” stuff. #Auldlangspine has added an extra jolt to my TBR as I‘ve been paired with @Amiable and am intrigued by a number of her favorite reads from the past year. Above are just a few of her recommendations I plan to check out in January and well into 2025!

Deblovestoread The Trees is so good. Can't recommend enough. 2d
Amiable I can‘t wait to hear your thoughts! FYI, I listened to the audiobook of “Here After.” It‘s read by the author and the emotions expressed in her voice add a poignancy to the story. 2d

Hi @TheBookHippie - this will be my second book from your fabulous #auldlangspine2025 list. I couldn‘t get hold of the exact Dorothy Parker that you had read - but I‘ve not read anything by her so I opted for this collected works. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

TheBookHippie Oh yay!!! That‘s a fun copy!!!! 6d
Mitch @TheBookHippie really looking forward to discovering her ⭐️ 3d

Had the second of three MRIs this morning at 7am, which, incidentally, is the perfect time to whack up the schedule of the MRI practice when a 10-12min exam turns into a 40min exam. They found something minor but nobody told me about it at the moment and I spiraled a bit, until I read the results.

Anyway, I got myself some books, because an emotional roller-coaster is better with emotional support books.

Two audiobooks and one ebook.

Tamra Whew!! That is definitely book worthy. 💙 7d
Bookwormjillk Ugh, you definitely deserve some books 7d

thecheckoutstack That sounds really stressful, enjoy your books treats 📚💕 7d
sebrittainclark I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of that. 💕 7d
Deblovestoread Sorry you are going through that. Books make everything a bit better. Take good care of you! 🩵 6d
CoffeeAndABook That sounds so stressful. I have some knowledge of looks or comments by medical professionals who then can‘t / won‘t tell you anything and send you into a full blown panic attack. I‘m glad it sounds like it was cleared up already. Drücke dir die Daumen für die kommenden Tage ? Bücher helfen bei mir auch immer ??? 6d
TheSpineView So sorry you are having to deal with the stress. 💞 6d
Ruthiella Sorry to hear that. ❤️❤️❤️ 6d
julesG @CoffeeAndABook Yeah, just telling me they saw something but there's no active inflammation at the moment would have been better. But hey, now I know there was an inflammation and it could mean having to change medications. Now I have to wait until my brain scan at the end of January for real panic mode. 🤪(Warum auch ein MRT für Schädel, Hals- und Brustwirbelsäule, wenn man das über 3 Termine und 4 Monate ziehen kann. Viel mehr Spaß 🙄) 6d
CarolynM Book therapy for the win! Sending love and hugs💕 6d
GingerAntics Book therapy is always the answer! I hope you‘re doing okay 6d

Andrew65 Sending positive thoughts, scans are so stressful at the best of times. 5d

Excited for #auldlangspine2025!

Is it overkill to check out all these now? Yes. But it feeds my winter hoarding impulse, so I went with it.

I might (will) have to cheat and start Frozen River before Jan 1, because it has a list of holds. (I‘m honestly surprised I got it already.) I figure this is allowable because ~technically~ it wasn‘t on your official #auldlangspine list 😉

monalyisha I totally didn‘t see this. Or, I did. I just didn‘t see the part about Frozen River. Wait, what was I talking about? My mind is suddenly cloudy… 1w
TheKidUpstairs Great stack! 1w
CSeydel @monalyisha That‘s the spirit! 1w

This chaotic graphic is an accurate representation of my reading life currently, but delighted with @Singout ‘s #AuldLangSpine list. I‘ve read 1-2-7-11-14-17 and every one of the others I‘ve not read sound right up my alley. In fact 3 I‘ve had on my list. However 2 are completely new to me. Love all the NF! I‘m off to place library holds, focusing on the ones pictured. Thanks to the master matchmaker @monalyisha #ALSpine #AuldLangSpine2025

Chelsea.Poole And one I‘m already on hold for at the library via audio for a couple weeks! It‘s meant to be! So I‘ll probably start with 3w
TheKidUpstairs @monalyisha I just looked at that one and immediately thought "Alyisha definitely stacked that!" So up your alley! 3w

I just finished listening to this and loved it! It‘s a clever, snarky, darkly humorous whodunnit. The audio has multiple narrators (all excellent) and it really brings the podcast element to life. Highly recommend!

KadaGul I have a copy and one ☝️of reads for #AuldLangSpine2025. 3w

What a fascinating #AuldLangSpine2025 #ALS list from @JoeMo ! Titles in red are books I've already read. Titles in blue are books I already own, so I will likely start with one of them in January.

Title in green is already on my TBR. I'm intrigued by the book about Siskel and Ebert. Honest disclosure: I don't intend to read anything with the words “Donald“ or “Trump in it for the rest of my life, if I can manage it. 😖 So probably not #14.

TheBookHippie Solidarity on that. 🚫🙈🙉⛔️ 3w
Amiable @TheBookHippie The Land of Denial is going to be my temporary residence for the next few years. 3w
TheBookHippie @Amiable I wish I could. 3w
Megabooks The Alberta is an amazing book! I hope you get to it! 2w

#AuldLangSpine2025 @monalyisha
@JamieArc thanks for creating this excellent list! I haven't read any of these. It looks like we both exchanged Percival Everett picks - I'm excited to read James based on the buzz it's been getting. I have some ideas about which I'll choose - definitely North Woods and Tom Lake. I've never read Due, but I just bought The Between last month. Also intrigued by #s 9 and 10. Can't wait to get started in 2025!

squirrelbrain What a great list! ❤️ 3w
monalyisha I‘m desperately hoping to read 10 with my IRL book club this coming year. We‘re in the process of voting on books right now, so fingers crossed! 🤞🏻 3w
Billypar @monalyisha I never even heard of it until now, but it sounds like it's getting a lot of positive attention! 3w

JamieArc @monalyisha @Billypar The Safekeep is a fairly short read, if that helps you get to it 😊 2w
BkClubCare Oh. Just got to the last section of The Safekeep 😳😳😳😳 2w
Billypar @JamieArc My attention span and reading speed are both not great, so short is definitely a selling point. And I'm intrigued by @BkClubCare 's reaction to the end 😀 2w
BkClubCare @Billypar - I am listening and honestly it doesn‘t feel like a short book. I am not done yet - but yeah, this last section was not expected (also, I try never to read blurbs and didn‘t know anything about the plot) 2w
