#SummerSouls Day 11: Part of the Katie Museum series, this time Katie brings us inside five of Van Gogh‘s masterpieces, beginning with the gorgeous #Starry Night. However, try as she might, Katie just can‘t reach those magical, bright stars. Not one to give up easily, she was resourceful enough to find something from one of Van Gogh‘s paintings that would allow her to reach the skies. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-j4y

lil1inblue I'm going to need about 10 copies of this. One for me, and 9 for all my friend's and family's kids. 3mo

I adore this cosy image and quote. You can always rely on Van Gogh for wisdom and clarity.

Meditations and musing on art. What makes something art? What makes art good? Where is the cutting edge? I enjoy Perry's irreverent, playful ponderings.

He does a lot of hedging his bets, but I do sometimes disagree when he expresses a solid opinion - e.g. that we've reached the end of the road when it comes to innovation & pushing boundaries, or the emphasis on art school as a way in.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

(Something did upset me. See comments.)

RaeLovesToRead Perry made mention of something that truly horrified my sensitive soul while discussing art created for shock value. No one else seems bothered from what I see on Goodreads, but I truly wish I could unread it. 1y

When @TheBookHippie chose Babar for last month‘s #childrensclassicread2023, I couldn‘t resist picking up this one too. Such fun! An unused railroad station in Celesteville is transformed into an art museum to house the King and Queen‘s vast collection of art that features elephants! The paintings and sculptures resemble famous ones from the likes of Rousseau to Seurat and Da Vinci to Cassatt! A celebration of the appreciation of art! #192025 #2003

The first half of this book is excellent in the exploration of art, why it matters, why we are compelled to create, how it speaks and moves us. The second half, while interesting, fell a bit short for me. Still well worth the read though.
