Pickpick

Anyone who has spent (most of) their adult life dieting should read this book. Talk about an eye opener.
I love Dr. Josh‘s Instagram account, and this book is like a giant slice of all that goodness. The audiobook, read by Dr. Josh, is as entertaining to listen to as any of the Q&A videos on his IG stories. This takes all of the wonderful advice he gives out on IG, expands upon it all, and organises it so that you can take it all in.

GingerAntics I will absolutely be referencing back to this book and he sources. 💙💙💙 #DrJoshuaWolrich #FoodIsntMedicine #AntiDiet 3y

This is staggering. We have really got to stop with the fat-phobia around here.

Funny how that worked out. I also found it interesting that the developers of the BMI index for medical use literally referred to the line between “proper” weight and “over” weight as “arbitrary.” There word: arbitrary. In one word they admitted it was BS.

This is absolutely staggering. The idea that if these kids can just be self disciplined enough to go to college and graduate, they‘ll automatically end up over the poverty line is another damaging lie we tell as a society. I thought I was the problem until I saw the evidence for this statement.

I seriously wish people could have a reality check on this. Pulling oneself up by the bootstraps is one is the biggest BS stories, and also one is the most damaging stories for people living below the poverty line.

TheBookHippie AMEN!!!!! 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie I totally bought into this and the whole “college is the answer” thing. I went to college. I went to grad school. I still live below the poverty line. If I had any chance of NOT being below the poverty line, my student loans would make sure I stayed “in my place” below that freakin line. 🙄 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics my daughter feels same! I went to actual nursing school on a pell grant before it was pulled -so I didn‘t have it as bad -but still I worked 72 hours a week and then 60 for decades🤯 I had my son switched gears, Mr BookHippie works two jobs so I can volunteer, no way any of us will ever be wealthy- but poverty line: all of my nieces nephews and my daughter and all college graduates 🤯🤯🤯most of my teachers work 2 jobs. Ridiculous 4y

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie right? You almost have to be a two income household to have any hope of being financially secure. Have a baby, all that goes out the window. I really don‘t know how people do it. I love how the same people who claim college is the way to “pull yourself out of poverty” are the same people who say “you didn‘t have to go to college” and “you have to want to not be poor.” Uum…how does that all work out? Contradictory much? 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie don‘t get me started on how little teachers get paid. It‘s ridiculous. They‘re already working jobs that require far more than school hours to get done or do well, but then they have to work other jobs too. It‘s not right. There was a brief glimmer of hope during the pandemic, but what a shock, it wasn‘t really there. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics I thought FINALLY then NADA… ugh … teachers need to make at least DOUBLE what they do now in reality it‘s triple to start. Unreal. 4y
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics you can‘t have your job without education but that makes it impossible to live 🤬 4y
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie exactly. Teachers need 2-3x more pay to start with. They need actual supply closets. The whole thing needs an overhaul. The countries with the best education systems have ALL of that. None of this BS, but then people would actually have to care about what happens in the classroom. People want results, but they‘re not willing to make the investment to make it possible. It‘s ridiculous. 4y

This is certainly news to me!!! Did anyone else think that doctors knew nutrition? This certainly explains a lot.

GingerAntics @Faibka I feel like this is something we need to discuss in book clubs and classrooms, take some time to meditate on it. This should be the center of every critical thinking class. 4y
