The Aviator's Wife: A Novel | Melanie Benjamin

Pickpick

Upon beginning, I felt that I wouldn't enjoy the book. I got incredibly annoyed with Anne at various points in the first chapters and would have bailed on the book. However, as the novel progressed, Anne became stronger and more independent. Her character development and Benjamin's rich, emotional writing are what kept me listening. Her author's note on the nature of historical fiction was enlightening. #audiobook #2017Book31 #historicalfiction

#2017Book31
This book started out strongly, building what promised to be a mystery filled with twists and turns. After the first few chapters, though, everything became somewhat predictable, which tends to happen in an "all of these random occurrences are somewhat related" plot structure. The sections of the novel I enjoyed the most focused on the descriptions of art restoration. That's an area I don't know much about so that was interesting.
