Such a fun tale! As an ardent reader of Heyer Regency romances, this was a perfect fit! It is quite a tangled tale with duels, impersonators, and a complex family tree. 😄 Oh, and lovely friends!

I will definitely look for more Joan Aikens! Any recommendations for particular titles?

TheAromaofBooks Aiken is a weirdly hit or miss author for me. For instance, The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is one of my all-time favorite books - but the rest of the series got progressively weirder and creepier. She wrote several Austen sequels that I have enjoyed but not loved, as well. 2y
mabell @TheAromaofBooks What a crazy coincidence! I just saw the Wolves of Willoughyb Chase secondhand yesterday! I saw the author and thought Ooohh, great timing! Then I read the summary, and I thought it seemed too dark for me. 😬 I should have just picked it up in case! 2y
TheAromaofBooks It is a little dark for a children's book, but SO good. But I probably wouldn't chose it for one of our “lighthearted“ reads 😂 2y

I didn‘t enjoy it as much as The Hobbit or the Trilogy, but it was definitely an interesting read that covered the history of Middle-Earth through its creation, through the lives & lineage of many elf houses and all of their battles with The Enemy over the ages, through to the end of the darkness in Middle-Earth. Filled with lots of tales of heroism, betrayal, battles, and the stuff of many the Eldar lore and legend.

The Shining | Stephen King

That's another one down! I love reading this book because it is so different from the movie. I watched The Shining a lot when I was growing up, so that's what I picture. The book took me back to King's original vision and it was just as chilling. I think both works are magnificent for their type of medium. #epicstephenkingreread #1977 #book5

The Shining | Stephen King

Now that my Harry Potter reread is over, I can move right along with my #epicstephenkingreread! The Shining is one of my all time favorites! Published in 1977. #1977 #book4

the_hibernator I actually am not a fan of SK's writing. It's always fallen short for me. I like his stories in movie form, though. However, I really liked The Shining when I read it. I'm also trying to listen to The Stand, in an experiment to see if I like his books in audio format. So far, it's working ok, but the book is too long. 8y
LA_Mead I hate to say it but I've never actually read a Stephen king book before. What's the best one to start with? Also, how scary are they? 8y
KarouBlue Ok so I've never read a Stephen King novel either. Should I??!! 8y
See All 10 Comments
Josie @the_hibernator he definitely isn't for everyone! And The Stand is way too long. I can't help but agree with you on that one. 8y
Josie @LA_Mead Well, it depends on what specifically scares you. Some of his books don't freak me out at all. Others I have a hard time reading. Are there any triggers you have? Or anything supernatural/creepy that you enjoy reading about? 8y
Josie @thecomfykitchen As a huge fun, I want to scream at the top of my lungs, "YES ABSOLUTELY YOU SHOULD!" But, he isn't for everyone! I can try to recommend something you might like! What do you enjoy reading as far as horror/supernatural/creepy AF goes? 8y
Gayan I think 11-22-63 is a good one to read because if you have scare triggers this one should not hit any of them. Plus, it's damn good! 8y
Josie @Gayan I agree!! Such great story telling! 8y
the_hibernator I have a lot of nostalgia for The Stand. My friend and I used to watch the miniseries over and over when we were kids. That's why I picked it. Despite my dislike for SK, I've read 6 of his books and only liked Salem's Lot and The Shining. 8y
TheNextBook Still my favorite book of all time! I love this edition of the book! I want so bad! 8y

Rage | Stephen King, Richard Bachman

This is one of the most terrifying short novels I have ever read. However, I was surprised at the aspects of the story that did terrify me. It was not was I expecting at all. Super creepy. Had me going WTF GUYS? most of the time. #epicstephenkingreread #1977 #book3

Scurvygirl I just reread this recently after finding out that it is no longer published. Although I can understand why with the theme, many of his books are far more brutal. It is quite mind blowing in any case. 8y
Josie @Scurvygirl the calm manner in which those kids dealt with that situation was mind blowing. But, I do have to remember than when he wrote this, school shootings weren't very common. So, with that in mind I understand a little better. Still scared me though!! 8y
Gayan It's been so long since I read it. I need to do a reread soon. 8y

I am returning to my #epicstephenking reread! I am now in 1977, when our dearly beloved Steve created Richard Bachman. I ADORE Bachman books. Rage is the only one I have not read, and that is where I will start! I'm also excited to read King's preface about being Bachman. *giddy school girl squeals and giggles*

RohitSawant Yay! Enjoy! 8y
Gayan I am going to read the Bachman Book in June! You inspire me with your posts! 💗 8y
TricksyTails I just restarted my own King reread! I'm only up to Rage and just diving into Night Shift. Looooong way to go. 😆 Have fun on your reread! 7y

Josie @tricksytails yay!!!! It‘s so much fun. I‘m in the middle of Different Seasons right now. I took about a month break from the reread but I‘m moving forward now!!! 7y
TricksyTails I'm loving how it's a very different experience this time around than when I was a frightened kid! Still scary but even more connected with the characters now. Are you doing the TV shows and movies too? I've hit a bit of a reading slump so my progress has been slow. Horrible timing. I love spooky reads in October! 7y
Josie @tricksytails I‘m not watching the movies or tv shows. I have a 2 year old, and she dominates the tv lol so when I do get downtime, I use it to read. Also, I have learned that I don‘t really enjoy watching any adaptations right after I finish reading the book. I get bored very easily because I remember so clearly what happened. I usually wait a couple of months 7y
TricksyTails Hahaha same. Me watching TV/movie adaptation: *jabs finger at screen* "That is NOT what happened in the book!" Very guilty of this during Game of Thrones. Besides, the book is always better. ? I look forward to your reread updates!! 7y
Josie @tricksytails hahahaha my mom does the same thing with GOT. I actually haven‘t read them yet, but I bought the first one over the weekend! I look forward to your reread updates too! Yay for new Litsy friends!!!! 7y
TricksyTails ? You haven't read them yet? I wish I could experience them for the first time again. Just be prepared to curse GRRM many times throughout the book. I can't tell you how many times I threw the book down thinking "Why? Why? How could you?" Heh what can I say? I get really invested into the characters. ? Yes! Yay for new Litsy friends! Now I'll be on the lookout for your GOT updates. ? 7y
