I was surprised at the number of socioeconomic issues raised by this book, including class prejudice, sexism, the evils of industrialization and wealth disparity. I found the book to be a bit boring, and every character annoyed me - they were all so self-centered. But I admire Lawrence's ability to make us think about the issues, which are still relevant a hundred years later. ⬇️

julieclair I can see why the book was a shocker when it first came out; there are frank discussions of sex throughout the book. I can also imagine that readers at the time may have missed some of the socioeconomic themes being portrayed, because of the novelty of the sex theme. so-so

This sort of absurdist satire isn't really my thing. However, there were some very funny moments and insightful observations, and Paul Pennyfeather is a likable character.

I'm happy that I can check off another #1001 book and fill in my #1928 slot for the #192025 challenge! @Librarybelle

Book 4 in the Lord Peter Wimsey series. The first half sets up the pieces (a little bit slowly), but the last quarter really hurtles along as Wimsey solves the mystery.
Picked this up for #roll100 but it also fits #52books23 for the #aboutaninheritance prompt.
