Standing in the Shadows | Peter Robinson
post image

#12BooksOf24 My book for #May had to be the last from the late great crime writer Peter Robinson, RIP. I‘ve been reading his DCI Banks series for over 20yrs and the fact there will never be another one saddens me immensely. I highly recommend the whole series but if you don‘t want to go that far back, Aftermath is a great starting point in the timeline.

#12BooksOf24 My book for #April is this brilliant 1st book in a new series by the author of Rizzoli & Isles. A small fishing town in wintry Maine, a group of retired CIA & a body left on one the ex-agents doorstep. I wish I had half the balls Maggie Bird does! Reminds me a lot of Killers Of A Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn with less snark.

Charityann Oooh, going to have to find this one. I love her books.😄 21h
Andrew65 Love her books, but not read this. 20h

Aurora Rising | Alastair Reynolds

#12Booksof24 I‘m a few days late starting this challenge, but here‘s my picks for the first months of this year. January - Revenge by Tom Bower( Meghan is awful)plus it was the only book I read in January!
February - House of Flame & Shadow by Sarah.J.Maas March - Aurora Rising by Alistair Reynolds, one of the best scifi series I‘ve read.

Andrew65 Good choices, I‘m interested in the Science Fiction especially. 23h
Lizpixie @Andrew65 I HIGHLY recommend it, it‘s a side on series to his Revelation Space novels. It‘s a crime novel set in space, it‘s absolutely fantastic. His world building is just🤌♥️ 23h
Andrew65 Will definitely be searching out the work by this author - thanks for the information. 23h
Lizpixie @andrew65 it‘s about AI, very fitting in this day and age I think. Gave me chills. 23h
Andrew65 @Lizpixie Very and a worrying context. 23h

Equal Rites | Terry Pratchett

Pratchett is always a favorite. 😍 When I have read all the Discworld books, I can think about ranking them. I know that this one is a favorite among many. It introduces Granny Weatherwax, who will return in later books and it has a much more cohesive plot than the two preceding books.

julesG It's not my favourite of the Witches books, but it shows how Pratchett has grown as an author, compared to Colour of Magic for example 2d
Andrew65 A very popular author. 2d
Ruthiella @julesG It‘s so far the only Witches book I‘ve read. 100% agree that it demonstrates Pratchett‘s growth. I‘ve got 33 books left to read in the Discworld and it‘s so exciting! (edited) 2d
Ruthiella @Andrew65 He is indeed! 2d

I started this with the #HashtagBrigade in January and didn‘t finish it until March, actually. Not my favorite book of all time or even Dostoyevsky, but one that will stick with me for a long while.

Ruthiella @BarbaraBB I‘ve no doubt another opportunity will come your way someday! 3d

The Dispossessed | Ursula K. LeGuin
post image

I read a lot of good things in January 2024 but I think this is the one that will stay with me the longest. Only the third book I have read from LeGuin, but it‘s my kind of science fiction because it makes me think hard about the past, present and future and provides different ways of looking at the world.
