A Brief Guide to the Greek Myths
A Brief Guide to the Greek Myths | Stephen Kershaw
4 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
The book leads the reader through these vibrant stories, from the origins of the gods through to the homecomings of the Trojan heroes. All the familiar narratives are here, along with some less familiar characters and motifs. In addition to the tales, the book explains key issues arising from the narratives, and discusses the myths and their wider relevance. This long-overdue book crystallises three key areas of interest: the nature of the tales; the stories themselves; and how they have and might be interpreted. For the first time, it brings together aspects of Greek mythology only usually available in disparate forms - namely children's books and academic works. There will be much here that is interesting, surprising, and strange as well as familiar. Experts and non-experts, adults, students and schoolchildren alike will gain entertainment and insight from this fascinating and important volume.

A Brief Guide to the Greek Myths is a book that contains a lot of fabled heroes, but it also holds stories filled with horror and chaos. One of these stories -- The House of Pelops -- focuses on the issues of honour, power, and sexual jealousy. In this story, a king named Tantalus tries serving Pelops (his own son) to the gods. This cruel act spirals into a chain of events that includes torture, revival, murder, and incest. Overall, it is one of -

In this story, another king named Minos angers Poseidon, so in retaliation, he instils an odd passion into Minos' wife Pasiphae. This lust drives her to be attracted to a bull. With the help of Daidalos, they are able to create a wooden bull that could fit Pasiphae in it. The bull took it for the real thing, and the inevitable happened. The po- 3y

We get to understand what the character is feeling in that moment of time, and he addresses his characters using “he“, “she“, and “they“. If you like books filled with fantastical and borderline-insane tales, then this book is for you. 3y

A Brief Guide to the Greek Myths is a book that contains the many iconic and vibrant stories from Greek mythology. One of the stories that are included in this book is The Odyssey, which follows Homer and his 10-year journey back home to his wife. Homer faces many mystical beasts such as the cyclops, and he also faces the wrath Poseidon - the god of the sea and waters. The legend of Atlantis is one of the stories I got to read in this book aswell.

Lance Tapang Atlantis was once a great city that was very advanced, but they collapsed due to the greediness and pettiness of their own people. The city then sank due to an earthquake, and has never been seen again. A large theme in this book is heroism. Greek mythology is filled with heroic figures such as Hercules, Theseus, and Homer. Both of them went through trials and faced off against mystical beasts, but they never gave up. They were praised by many af- 3y

If you like books that contain wild stories filled with mystical beasts, action, drama, and fighting, then this book is for you. Each story is filled with detail and lore, and all these stories together create an amazing world. 3y
