The Best of Adam Sharp
The Best of Adam Sharp | Graeme Simsion
A novel about love, music and coming to terms with the past, from the author of the international bestseller The Rosie Project. On the cusp of fifty, Adam Sharp has a loyal partner, earns a good income as an IT contractor and is the music-trivia expert at quiz nights. Its the lifestyle he wanted, but somethings missing. Two decades ago, on the other side of the world, his part-time piano playing led him into a passionate relationship with Angelina Brown, whod abandoned law studies to pursue her acting dream. She gave Adam a chance to make it something more than an affairbut he didnt take it. And now he cant shake off his nostalgia for what might have been. Then, out of nowhere, Angelina gets in touch. What does she want? Does Adam dare to live dangerously? How far will he go for a second chance? Graeme Simsion was born in Auckland and is a Melbourne-based writer of novels, short stories, plays, screenplays and two non-fiction books. The Rosie Project began life as a screenplay, winning the Australian Writers Guild/Inscription Award for Best Romantic Comedy before being adapted into a novel. It went on to win the 2012 Victorian Premiers Literary Award for an unpublished manuscript and has since been sold around the world to over forty countries. Sony Pictures have optioned the film rights with Graeme contracted to write the script. The Rosie Project won the 2014 ABIA for Best General Fiction Book, and was ultimately awarded Australian Book of the Year for 2014. The sequel, The Rosie Effect, was released in 2014 to great acclaim and also became a bestseller. His new book is The Best of Adam Sharp. [A] poignant glimpse into human relationshipswhat it is to love and to be loved The Best of Adam Sharp hits you right in the morals and leaves you thinkinghow far would you go for a second chance? Probably will not finish catching up today, but I'll start! This is possibly the most #MusicalCover I own, which is funny because I don't recall music playing a heavy role in the plot.

Another on my list. Loved it. I realised when I got it home that it had one of those stickers saying it was romance! Would not have usually picked such a book up. Through out the book he mentions songs, many from my past. Said Penguin had published a playlist on Spotify. I‘ve heard of this app but wasn‘t sure of it. A few minutes later downloaded and I‘m listening to the playlist . I had a wonderful day reading and listening.

Adam Sharp isn‘t like the endearing and oddly charming we met in the Rosie Project - it was hard to believe they even came from the same author. Don‘t pick this up if you‘re looking for the same feelings Don Tillman gave you. This bordered right between a so-so and a pick for me - the ending worked for me but there was a big chunk in the middle that really didn‘t sit well with me.

janeycanuck @TheLibrarian thanks - she‘s doing pretty well. I think she‘s milking this for all it‘s worth, though! 6y

janeycanuck @BookNAround thank you - she‘s down 8 teeth after yesterday so shouldn‘t have too much of an impact on her. Does your pup have any favourite soft treats that I should look for next time we‘re at the pet store? 6y
BookNAround @janeycanuck I haven‘t changed anything about her diet because she has never actually chewed anything, just inhaled it (hence the tartar and tooth disease). 😜 6y
janeycanuck @BookNAround I think that‘s the issue with mine, too. I need to look into some kind of dental treats because there‘s no way she‘ll let me start brushing her teeth. 6y

The story started off a little slow, although I am right in the middle of moving so I have been very distracted. I got into this love story and connected with all of the characters to a point were I just could not decide how I wanted the story to end because I liked everyone too much.

Book-reading first: Started and finished this book today! The story centred around music which pulled me in immediately. The love story was very real yet took a strange and unrealistic turn that I wasn't very fond of. Yet, the final pages brought back the realization that there is a difference between reality and fantasy.

This is a light, fun, funny book that comes with its own Spotify playlist if you're keen. I did it on audio over a couple of sessions while busily doing other things and it was perfect for that (good narration too). Not sure I'd devote the time to sit and read the physical book, perhaps a beach read.

I adored "The Rosie Project" & "The Rosie Effect" by this author and was excited for this one. It's a smartly written, grown-up story of lost love and nostalgia, which had me sucked in for the first half. Sadly, I struggled too much with the second half. It shifts from feeling nostalgic for a lost love, to having the chance to meet them again, and I had a difficult time cheering for the characters choices. Still a page-turner, but not my taste.

Well, it's not The Rosie Project! I started off liking the book. Then not so much. There was a lot of psychological twists and turns that I found interesting and the ending was fine. I didn't read anything about this book before I started listening to it so I had no preconceived ideas but if I had this is not what I would have imagined! I won this advanced audio copy & I believe I enjoyed listening to this book more than I would have reading it.

Happy book birthday! A story of first love, what-ifs, & a kind of crazy turn that kept me glued to the pages to find out what the heck was really going on! Throughout it all, the story was grounded using music, & even comes with a playlist. I'd recommend listening to the songs (or at least the iTunes clips) while you're reading, b/c I think it adds another level of depth & emotion to the story.

I admired this book more than I enjoyed it -- though I need to stress I really enjoyed parts of it. I'd love to heartily recommend this, I wish I could -- but I can only do so with reservations. There's so much I object to going on in these pages that I can't, while I can respect Simsion's work (which was just great) -- and I know this book achieved everything he wanted. I'll give it 4 Stars out of 5 on merit, not my own enjoyment.

This was not at all the book I thought it would be. It starts off a wistful romance (what I expected), but then veers into the unexpected. I didn't feel like most of the characters were developed enough, but they told the story. More optimistic and contemplative than I would have guessed and I liked that about it.

I really enjoyed this, from the author of The Rosie Project. It's definitely flawed in places - the main character is just a bit too self aware/insightful - I have a feeling if he were a woman he'd be considered a bit of a Mary Sue. But it's a compelling read and good fun.
